Fortunately, our good old nanny state government here in California is protecting consumers from those extra charges.
I just read that. It's very poorly written. And the OP is misleading - states are not charging anything.
Starting yesterday, in 40 states, via an agreement with Visa and Mastercard, retailers can charge, if they choose, customers a credit-card processing fee of up to 4%. A few other articles I've now read say that so far not a single major retailer has any plans to do so.
Quite frankly, I think stores should charge a credit-card processing fee. Why should those of us who pay cash subsidize the extra costs associated with those using credit card?

In that case, I want a 4% discount for paying CASH.
So basically this equals a 4% tax on top of existing taxes.
What about Debit transactions?
