And I'm saying that owning a gun will almost NEVER help one defend oneself. There's a big difference between, "doesn't save them in every possible circumstance," and "will almost never help one defend oneself."

Haven't read all of the responses here but I'm a woman and a liberal and I have guns, know how to use them safely and I'm a very good shot. However...I don't build my life around guns. They are a tool and an effective one and while I wouldn't want to not have one, I don't get all of the gun worshipping and chest thumping that goes on about them. Makes me wonder what deficiencies people have that they must go on and on about their firearms.
Oddly enough, most of the people 'chest-thumping' wouldn't be saying a word if there weren't people trying to take away a basic right. I am glad to see a liberal on here who realizes that guns are just a tool, though. I was starting to think that the rhetoric had infected everyone who considered themselves a liberal.

Yes, they would be on the hobby section if they wanted to talk about guns and shooting as a hobby, but with the recent gun debate it's all front and center.
