People confuse SSI with SSDI.

Where is the appeal of living on $1000 a month?

Another day and another round of " Bash the Obama" game.

The CBO identifies an aging population ( baby boomers) as the primary reason for increased SS disability, not politics or new policies:

Social Security Disability Enrollment Rising Due To Demographic Trends, Not Obama 'Slavery' Plot: CBO

As an aside but related, the historical majority of Section 8 vouchers are used by seniors. This gorup is also heavily dependent upon SNAP benefits. The number of people 65 or older increased 15% between 2000-2010. 10,000 people began to turn 65, each day begining in 2011. This is projected to continue for the next 2 decades.

Darn shame Obama allowed those born between 1946-1964 to age, eh.

EITC became a permanent fixture of the tax code in 1978.

Sometimes it's true. The people who complain about the safety net so much have recieved "welfare" of some kind before if they aren't already. Like tax breaks, or not paying taxes at all. High school educations are paid for with tax dollars. Who says anybody is entitled to one? Yeah, people abuse the system. But what about working under the table? What about illegal immigrants who work under the table? You know, those people you love to praise so much. You pay taxes. They don't. But you still love them. That is your average conservative/right wing/republican. No critical thinking skills and endless hypocrisy.

These type of posts are evidence that the conservative argument for smaller government has been crushed a long time ago.

conservatives don't attack the idea of government spending on the basis of specific big government programs.

Not one conservative will get on tv or on this board and say that they are against sending checks to the disabled, which is the only conservative argument to make if you truly want a small government.

Instead, conservatives agree that it is important that big government send out checks to the disabled, but only the truly disabled.

It is the same argument conservatives make about welfare, food stamps, unemployment benefits, job training programs and on and on and on.

conservatives don't argue for a smaller government. conservatives support big government they use the same language as liberals in talking about the need to help and spend money etc.

Instead conservatives attempt to say or imply that some of those people who are getting that government spending don't deserve it because blah, blah, blah.

So in order to spread their message of smaller government conservatives because they lost the argument about smaller government have to demonize the recipients of big government as criminals, or immoral, or lazy, or etc.

This places the conservative party in the very dangerous position of having to throw away various groups of voters whom they have to demonize in order to make the roundabout argument for smaller government.

The reality is this the largest government programs are by far the most popular government programs. The largest groups of government workers are by far the most popular groups of government workers.

The argument against big government has been lost and all conservatives can do is demonize public unions, racial minorities, single moms, poor people, etc as the bad guys to talk about reducing spending.

Again, it is not easy to qualify. Those that do have it easy are those who are terminal. I've said this dozens of times before it is not easy to qualify for SSDI and it takes years for most and most are denied hourly. This constant denial is part of the venting processes and works very well. All your ducks need to be in order over a period of years and those ducks involve several professional people to back the patient up. It is a stressful procedure. If people are receiving SSDI because of mild BS mental issues then I'm against it 100%. If they can and are employable---they should be DENIED.

Many claim they know for a fact a person is not disabled because................. they do not look disabled. One thing I've learned is looks are extremely deceiving.

Here are the 5 states with the most people (not percentage of population) on disability:

1) West Va. ( one out of 20 people are on disability !)
2) Arkansas
3) Kentucky
4) Alabama
5) Mississippi

Regardless of state, arthritis and heart disease, are the most common reasons for disability.

Same can be said for an aging population.
