Lincoln was not a man of high morals...but one who was morally conflicted.

"My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause." The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume V, "Letter to Horace Greeley" (August 22, 1862), p. 388.

Do the people of the South really entertain fears that a Republican administration would, directly, or indirectly, interfere with their slaves, or with them, about their slaves? If they do, I wish to assure you, as once a friend, and still, I hope, not an enemy, that there is no cause for such fears." The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume IV, "Letter to Alexander H. Stephens" (December 22, 1860), p. 160.

If yes, compare freeing the Iraqis from slavery of Saddam and Bush causing 3500 deaths.

My opinion, both Lincoln and Bush were wrong to attack and cause the damage they caused.

Lincoln was a traitor to the US, he violated constitutional laws and used "Freeing the slaves" as a propaganda point to detract from his treachery. He didn't give a crap about the slaves and even admitted such.

I would suggest you read the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Emancipation Proclamation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fourteenth amendment was a power coup, nothing more. It was packaged with the emancipation to give it credibility, otherwise it would have came off as nothing more than the federal government asserting authority over the states.

State authority needs to be reeled in time in again... Especially in matters of discrimination...

You think the best way to do that was to disregard the constitution, attack the states who were leaving and then create an amendment that didn't simply attend to that issue, but opened the door to the federal government incorporating across all states?

Sorry, Lincoln deserved his bullet. He was a traitor who had no respect for our government and only sought the benefit of his own "kingly" desires.

Nomander, you are talking with people who are emotionally involved with the whole slavery/lincoln/war for southern independence thing. All they see is lincoln issued the proclamation to free the slaves that's it. They don't realize he was a racist who hate blacks, they don't know the president of the CSA adopted a black child, etc etc...like I said its just dumb to argue with the majority of these knuckleheads.

Why do people think that only white people owned slaves. In the 1860 Census, there were over 1600 black slaveowners throughout the south, not counting new orleans where there were over 3000 black slave owners.

Evil.

And the actual death count is closer to 800,000.

Lincoln should be tried as a mass murderer.

I stand by my statement. When it comes to slavery, discrimination, etc. human rights are greater than state's rights.
