What cruise lines don't want you to know - CNN.com

Interesting Article up on CNN as part of the fall out from the cruise line issue. . I suspect.

His arguments about wages have 0 impact on me. I mean seriously, if you don't want to work for 155 a week how about find another job somewhere else?

The idea that safety regulations is lacking is of some concern. . .though I really don't recall that out of the 16 million cruise passengers who went cruising how many actually died.

I would think Cruise Lines are pretty safe, compared to. . driving maybe.

I for one will continue to avoid large cruise ships. . .but i don't really think safety is an issue (and I know the wages aren't)

What about you? Any concerns about vacationing on the wal-mart of the seas?

I've never had the inclination to do a cruise and likely never will. As for wages, it's one of those exotic jobs that young people enjoy. They likely get all the food they can eat and a roof over their heads. What's not to like if you have no responsibilities?

As far as safety, it's probably one of those things like flying........much safer than driving.

It's my understanding that most cruise ship crew come from Third World countries. Since the ships are registered in low-regulation countries like Panama and the Bahamas, they don't have to comply with US labor regulations.

Like Wal-Mart, those people working on cruise ships would not have a job if they didn't work there.

You really can't compare the wages to the USA. The article should of given a comparison of the shipworkers and their respective home country.

Going on a cruise ranks right up there with stapling my tongue to the carpet and attending a Jerry Lewis film festival on things I don't want to do before I die. Can someone explain the appeal?

Those folks work 16 hour days for weeks at a time and don't get to see their families for months.
Taking advantage of their poverty is hardly a ringing endorsement for the Cruise Industry.
But you are right. It is kinda like WalMart.

If I ever go on a "cruise", I will be driving my own boat.

Cruise ships are for pansies, and liberals.

My major concern about is sanitation in such confined quarters and the frequency with which communicable illnesses sweep across most of the ship's passenger manifest. But mostly I have little interest in being stuck on a boat for days or weeks at a time with nothing to look at but water.
