on a national level, gasoline taxes don't even cover 50% of road maintenance costs and cover 0% of new construction costs. roads require heavy subsidization from other sources.

Diesel technology, is producing insane fuel mileage and performance in one package.
The EPA has been trying to restrict diesel engines, more and more.

US government wont let 75 mpg cars into the country - Ford has them and so does VW!
Even if they let them in, the gov't would raise taxes to make up the shortfall in tax revenues. Why do you think that Europeans pay $8-$10 per gallon for diesel? They benefit from better mpg, but lose it at the pump.

It isn't the government. The EPA requirements on diesel are too strict and IIRC the EPA measures pollution in PPM per gallon and not MPG

There's some holes in this guys story.

1. Roads are highly subsidized at the federal level.
2. There are full electric cars sold in the US. The Nissan Leaf for example.

Some states have proposed per-mile taxes to counter the issue the guy raised.

Wow! 75 mpg?

We should be screaming about the conspiracy to restrict the 300 mpg carburetor!
