That's the point. Why should a husband/wife get rights not available to the unmarried? Singles have to live an unsecure life because they can't cover everything that might happen with documents from a lawyer. This appointed person would be able to do everything a spouse can do.

Any two single consenting persons should be able to do this, why is the whole marriage thing discriminatory by nature in favor of opposite sex partners?
