According to most people on this thread, Michigan Ave is becoming the new Englewood?

I actually find the person who called the radio show, voice trembling and angry, going on about being afraid of downtown and taking a gun with him, more frightening than any of these wildings. In my ten years living in the States I've learned Americans can be ridiculously paranoid, fearmongering and massively influenced by the sensationalist media is here, but people need to put this stuff into perspective.

Most Americans are stupid. This is easily proven by the fact that Fox News is the most popular news source.

The average American is naive, weak(physically and mentally) and stupid. They really are nothing more than frightened cattle.

People need to think for themselves! If something is worth forming an opinion on, it's worth investigating.

Only a handful of people are capable of independent thought. The rest simply believe everything they are told by the media, no matter how ludicrous it is. It's funny, but sometimes I get a little envious of those folks. After all, ignorance is bliss.

Sometimes it's interesting to see which sort of negative stereotypes can be thrown about without a care in the world while others prompt howls of outrage.

I will still go to Michigan Ave. but don't pretend that 500 (or 100, don't know how many there were) kids shoving innocent people around isn't scary, especially to people who have little kids with them. If any of you were there, you would have been nervous, too. These incidents are becoming more common, but the police seem to be handling appropriately. I was out with my baby and there were a group of loud teens cursing and just being rowdy teenagers, but I walked out of my way to avoid them. They saw this and called me some racial slurs (white racial slurs) which I actually got annoyed about 1) because it was rude, but 2) because I'm not white, and then directed those same white racial slurs towards my baby. If you don't think it made me scared, or that if you were woman alone with your baby, that you wouldn't be scared too, then you are lying.

Calling you names is almost always as far as they'll go though. I know this because I grew up in a place where there are always big groups of youths hanging around who will insult anyone who goes past. They do it because they're bored and want to impress their friends. They're also not very bright so will say the first stupid thing they think of. I was walking home once and walked past these kids and one said "****ing black bag bastard". He was insulting my BACKPACK. Act like they don't exist (because they love a reaction), better yet have headphones in so they know you can't hear them. I know it can be scary if it's something you're not that used to and have a baby, but really the chances of you being hurt by these people are extremely slim.

You're right, MSNBC is such a bastion for wise, objective discussion (as long as you vote democrat that is).

Fair and Balanced.
