I'm not a huge fan of the US government or of most governments, but I accept that some form of governance is a necessarily evil. Without government, private industry would take over, and there would be no democratic process. Voting with your dollar will never be as effective as even an inefficient and corrupt democracy such as our own in the USA, nor is it fair because obviously the poor have less of a vote.

Is libertarianism essentially a rejection of the Enlightenment and everything about modern society?

Considering that libertarianism draws its roots from a number of prominent Enlightenment thinkers such as Adam Smith, Voltaire, and John Locke saying that libertarianism is a rejection of the Enlightenment is like saying Marxism is a rejection of Hegelian dialectics.

Or are you mistaking libertarianism with anarchism? Because libertarian thought is based on the foundation that some government is a necessary evil. Which is why you often hear libertarians talk about how the government should mostly consist of the police, the military, and the courts. Many libertarians (such as myself) would add major infrastructure such as roads in there as well.

No.

You're confusing libertarian with anarchist.

What about schools, health care, water, national parks, and so on? Privatize all of those?

It is exclusively for the highest-level thinkers in society. GOP/DNC solely rely on an uneducated populous and emotion to craft legislation, it is the antithesis of intellect.

People are scared to be free because most aren't mentally evolved and enlightened. You are taught and bred to do what your told, especially by the government and accept it.

The unknown is scary, once upon a time people thought Zeus threw lightning bolts, the world was flat, the Earth was the center of the universe and history exonerated those critical of it. People at the time made excuses, ostracized those people and condemned their beliefs, but remaining steadfast in the face of adversity is the critical element of propelling true high-level thinking among the rest of society.

Just as often with people claiming to be libertarian as with their critics.

And there are those who say that private industry has taken over the government and thats why we have such a dystopian country right now. So why push for increased government control when it only benefits multi national coporations at our expense? Libertarianism is the exact opposite of that and we're supposed to shut off our minds and say that its anti intellectual? No, we won't.
Get some life experience and think for yourself and you'll see why our only shot at improving our lives and putting both the government and business back to work for us, and not the other way around, is libertarianism.

Really irrelevant to the question. People dress up and pretend to be female when they aren't but that doesn't mean there aren't many females but as I said, that has nothing to do with the question.

Anarchism is by far the best answer.

I could deal with Libertarianism though.
