Taxes in Chi are the fifth highest in the nation. Gas tax, liquor tax, cigarette tax. The murder rate is obvious. The cops are understaffed. McCarthy is clueless as is Rahm. Corruption is typical. I see no one in Chi chuckling about any of that. Now there are some that will put up the pretty pictures of the city and claim that is what Chicago is about. Those are forms of entertainment. Not real, day-to-day living for the average Chicagoan.
Chicago's benefits far outweigh the negatives, as is with most world-class, exciting cities to live in. Are they for everybody? No. But you can't beat the entertainment value, cultural amenities, the accessibility, and the diversity of career offerings available in Chicago. As a person who focuses on my career and having fun, I would say Chicago offers the best of both worlds for me.

Guess you can't go anywhere on these forums without certain posters turning this into a Chicago and Indianapolis boondoggle. Give it a rest already. Every major city has areas that are unsavory, higher crime, blight. That's part of living in the city. No place is utopia. Chicago's problems are the same ones that exist in New York who has the same problems that exist in Seattle who has the same problems that exist in Cincinnati and so on and so on. Maybe I should go to the cooking forum or something.

Exactly, I would take city life over the suburbs any day of the week.

Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago ?
Body count: In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago .
221 killed in Iraq AND Chicago has one of the strictest gun laws in the entire US.
PRESIDENT: Barack Hussein Obama
Senator: Dick Durbin
House Representative: Jesse Jackson Jr.
Governor: Pat Quinn
House leader: Mike Madigan
Atty. Gen.: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike)
Mayor: Rahm Emanuel
The leadership in Illinois - all Democrats.
Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago .
Of course, they're all blaming each other.
Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!
Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.
Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!
State pension fund $78 Billion in debt, worst in country.
Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!
Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax 10.25% highest in country.
Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!
This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois .
And he is going to 'fix' Washington politics for us???
George Ryan is no longer Governor, he is in the big house. Of course he was replaced by Rob Blajegovitch who is...that's right, also in the big house. And Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. resigned a couple of weeks ago. That is because he is fighting being sent to...that's right, the big house.
The Land of Lincoln , where our governors make our license plates.
But you know what? As long as they keep providing entitlements to the population of Chicago , nothing is going to change, except the state will go broke before the country does.
"Socialism is the phantastic younger brother of despotism, which it wants to inherit. Socialism wants to have the fullness of state force which before only existed in despotism. ... However, it goes further than anything in the past because it aims at the formal destruction of the individual who can be used to improve communities by an expedient organ of government."
-- Friedrich Nietzsche - (1844-1900)

Note: Chicago had over 500 homicides in 2012. 508 to be exact. Also the unfunded Pension liabilities are over 100 Billion now. Plus Illinois has the worst credit rating in the country.
Such a sorry excuse of a city.
The gun laws outside of the city are not strict and guns are easily imported into any city from elsewhere.

Well said
Couldn't agree more.
Visiting the Chicago loop and actually living in Chicago are 2 totally different things.
Plus even if you could live in the mostly safe loop you would easily have to be rich to do so cause its so damn expensive.
Chicago and New York are becoming the cities of the rich and poor and no middle class.
