There was a time, back when, that people opposed tractors because it reduced labor.
U.S. manufacturing peaked in the 50's along with unions. The U.S. was the only game in town to rebuild Europe and Japan, after the war. The GI Bill sent millions to school who otherwise would not have been able to attend.
The price of everything is determined by the cost of production. It matters in a global economy.
Steel was amongst the first industry to begin outsourcing in the mid 60's, almost 50 years ago.
No-medium skill jobs have been eliminated through outsourcing and technology for decades. The U.S. consumer has been the primary beneficiary.
Real wages have been declining since the 70's. And yet, most people have been able to acquire more substantially more stuff than anyone dreamed of back in the 50's.
About the only thing that has put some brakes on poverty ( and the slide into a third world state for some) is government spending.
All together now...join hands and play the Blame the Obama game, cause life and the economy were perfect prior to January, 2009.
And one of the characteristics of a Third World country is a tiny mega-rich upper class surrounded by a huge, impoverished underclass.
I totally agree that we need to change course and encourage more income equality. So what do you think the US should do about that?

I couldn't agree more. No upward mobility = more class division and more income inequality, which is the road to ruin.
And yet what we constantly hear from the GOTP and its enablers is that income inequality is healthy and productive and we should actually have MORE of it.
Craig Roberts is shilling for his book. He's hoping that the more shocking his remarks, the more his book will sell.
I'm reminded of all the hysterical RWNJs who were predicting in 2002-03 that Europe would be living under sharia law in 5-10 years because scary brown people.
It's so sad. He complains about the direction of the country. But his ideology is what's doing it and he doesn't even realize it.
I had an entire thread dedicated to police brutality and intimidation tactics being used on protesters. People wouldn't even address the issue. All they did was blame the protesters because of their "image".
Only 1 poster, GregW, came to the defense of the protesters.
Some of you HONESTLY believe that the US is going to be a third world country in 11 years?!? Wowwwwww.
I don't know whether to laugh or be scared for some people.
P.S. Anyone who thinks this has never been to a REAL third world country. Ever.
