For the first time ever, my daughter decided to work on Marathon Monday. She's safe in Cambridge at the moment. It's crazy the hate some people have for those they've never met. This was a cowardly act regardless of the reasoning of the person or persons responsible.
I posted this in the current events but that forum apparently doesn't get much use. NY Post reporting that there are 12 dead, almost 50 wounded and a suspect is in the hospital being guarded. I'm not sure what "being guarded" means, or why he's being guarded but that's what they are reporting.
Horrifying. Why did they even put that up?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Don't hide from it. Nobody should hide from it. There is evil out there. Pure evil that will do anything and hurt anyone, including innocents. Everybody needs to truly know and understand that.
My heart hurts that this is the world in which we live.
But thats like suggesting we need to wait until the end of the Iraq war, before we discuss the consequences, or that we needed to kill Bin Laden, before discussing how to deal with 911, or how to stop gun violence after a shooting, or how to protect planes from being hijacked after one is taken over.
Its perfectly natural and normal to discuss what the effects of actions are, before the dust settles, and suggesting that discussing these things is disrespeful is utter garbage.
I'm not saying we need to wait months or years before we discuss what happened in Boston this afternoon. I am suggesting that we focus our attention on the current situation, and once that is resolved (tomorrow, perhaps?), we can discuss what the political ramifications are. I just don't believe this is the time for politics and finger-pointing. I wasn't on internet message boards immediately after 9/11, but I hope that people sent their well-wishes to families of victims and those injured before turning the conversation to what might happen after (DHS, Patriot Act, ect).
I don't expect what I suggest to happen, but at least I tried.
I am sure the media will cover up any middle eastern names that are connected with this.
Why?
They never have before. If this was indeed caused by someone with a typical Arabic name I'm sure all the news stations will be clamoring to post it.
Meanwhile every other source is saying 2 dead, 23 injured.
Okay fine. I am just posting it. Take it for what it's worth.
