It's a stupid half measure that attempts to quell a lot of the backlash from corporate sponsors and former scouts while placating the LDS Church. What happens to the Eagle Scout who wants to stay involved? Can he not help lead a troop because he's openly gay? And frankly, why is an openly gay troop leader less moral than an openly gay 17 year-old troop member? What the reason for the differentiation? The rules of interaction between leaders and scouts are the same regardless of sexual orientation, so why pretend this this anything other than a cynical half move?
i guess we shouldn't have male teachers teaching female students.. because we can't take the possibility of pedophiles getting at them? Jesus christ.. some people are so ignorant and insulting....
if someone equated me to a pedophile because I'm gay.. I'd be tempted to punch them in the face... so insulting!
We don't allow male gym teachers to teach the girls in middle school or high school. Men are not allowed in the girls locker room, not because they are pedophiles, but because most all men are attracted to women, and we do not want male teachers handing out towels in the shower, even if they promise to behave.

Agreed, can a gay male scout be a mentor to younger scouts?
They will lose all their support from religious organizations. It's practically bankrolled by the Mormon Church.
The Mormon contribution to Scouting is about 13%. Even if they go with a unilateral withdrawal, it'll be offset by other groups who have been turned off by the anti-gay stance.
Plus, I don't really believe all the religious groups are going to back out like they say they are. They are definitely threatening to in order to affect the outcome. But when it comes to withdrawing their support, I remain unconvinced.
I just wonder why all of these religious organizations are only concerned about ostracizing homosexuals. As far as I know, an adulterer is allowed to serve as a scoutmaster and adultery is on god's top ten list of very bad things. Homosexuality is not.
The cafeteria style bigotry that a lot of Christians proudly and openly display is appalling.
