Did you by chance read where there was also a Black Only and a White Only Prom Separately ?
Sounds like the Blacks also had their own prom. Looks like they are now both a thing of the past.
Yes, I did read that there was also a "blacks-only" prom.
Also read this:
"Traditionally, most students were welcome to the "black prom" but an unwritten rule kept students of different races from attending the "white prom.""
I wan to know how the parents who held the white only prom justified having it this year. My understanding is that the blacks only prom did not happen this year.

I honestly don't know the answer to the OP. One could also ask are there any other reasons to have Black universities other than racism?
That might be a good argument, if not for the fact that HBCs (or as you call them, "black universities") allow ALL races to apply and attend - I think something like 25-30% of their student bodies are non-black. This prom, on the other hand, even had security & police to ensure no "darkies" got into the white prom.
There is a big difference from racial exclusion to being an organization that fights for equality. None of those organizations exclude others from participating. Which is the opposite of exclusion like the White only prom that this thread is about. I see that some of you are having a hard time focusing on the actual subject.
No there isnt. There are lots of black only organizations and groups in this nation, and there isnt a problem with it, nor should there be.
Do you share the same sadness that black only activities continue to exist?
Like the NAACP, or the National Black Justice Coalition, CORE, or various others.
Well, since I am white and have belonged to the NAACP for 40 years I have a hard time seeing them as a "black only" activity. At the NAACP events I have attended I have certainly NOT been the only white person in attendance either.
