FEWER FULL TIME WORKERS. Show me a graph, MTA, to show me how the loss of full time workers is good news!
In April, the number of persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes referred to as
involuntary part-time workers) increased by 278,000 to 7.9 million, largely offsetting a decrease in
March. These individuals were working part time because their hours had been cut back or because they
were unable to find a full-time job. (See table A-8.)
Reading that tells me that it was offset by last months decrease, so you can basically void that number Hawkeye. Plus the Federal sequestration will 100% affect the part-time number (that is where it was targeted, reducing contractor and federal worker hours per month). Moving on beyond that:
Among the marginally attached, there were 835,000 discouraged workers in April, down by 133,000
from a year earlier.
That is a large decrease in the discouraged workers profile. Now you may argue they all just stopped looking for work, but logically that isn't right. It will always be a mix and a decrease is good.
WASHINGTON -- The labor market rebounded last month as the U.S. economy added 165,000 net new jobs and the unemployment rate dropped to 7.5%, its lowest level in more than five years, the Labor Department said Friday.
The April jobs figure exceeded analyst expectations of about 148,000 net new jobs and helped counter concerns that hiring was significantly slowing after a disappointing report in March.
Look at the numbers. Let's show them to you, as you won't look.
Full Time
The number of employees not working a full week rose to 27.5 million from 27.4 million. Some 278,000 more employees were working part-time for economic reasons
So if we want a bunch of part time restaurant workers making minimum wage, these are great numbers. If we want a vibrant economy, these are terrible numbers.
When you were working, Bob, did you work full time, or part time? Keep in mind that all these part time workers are exempt from Obamacare coverage by employers, thus we are also adding new Medicaid patients.
An Obama economy is one only a liberal can love.
If you want to count the new part time workers, the the economy added 448 000 jobs. You sure you want to look at it that way ?
Job growth under 105,000 is not beating the break even number, however ... look at bit at the actual numbers over the last 3 years. Then you can "really" get irrational.
I don't know how you can do it; but track commercial trucking. When our truck stops or rest area are full and there are many commercial trucks on our roads; the economy is booming. Of course the opposite is true when there are few trucks in the truck stops or rest areas and on our roads. This can change very quick – from day to day or week to week. Trucking responds to the orders – if people are buying; people are working.
I just feel that this visual representation, of our economic health, is far superior to our statisticians and politicians.
The devil is in the details. Looks like there were 265,000 new PART TIME JOBS, meaning we LOST full time jobs.
Another "victory" for Obama in leading the nation on the fast track to third world status.
Nothing wrong with working part-time. Buy what you can afford and spend more time enjoying life without all the bells and whistles. Business and services will charge what the people can afford. Full time and overtime only benefit the vampires at the top.

Also, watch railroad stocks and shipping reports, they are the best indicator of a booming economy. They are a great indicator of the health of commercial truck shipping.
The big news is that unemployment continues to move steadily downward, which is another sign that our economy is moving in the right direction!
