Since January 2009, the GOP in Congress has blocked anything it thought could help make Obama's economic program look good. One budget crisis after another. To keep their jobs, they've made certain ordinary citizens can't get jobs. That despite preventing the expiration of upper class tax cuts. It is a big disinformation campaign to say Congress has tried to help in any way. The sequester, forced on Obama to prevent government shutdown, causes job loss. Then you get this chorus "Oh, look, Obama's policies are causing jobs to be lost". The sequester is NOT an Obama economic policy. He's merely tried to keep the government running, something the GOP treats as optional (but do they have interruptions in THEIR pay, not hardly). There's a superstorm of political baloney going on. And the GOP has so corrupted the system that they can get the minority of votes in an election and still have a majority in the House.

Obstruction is selective.

When it came to excluding themselves from insider trading that bill breezed through the House/Senate/President's desk in record time.

When it comes to "national security" there's no debate either.

Neither side will cut/tax because they don't want to be blamed.
The obstruction is their way of not having to face the hard decisions and I think both sides gladly play that game.

Obama threatened to veto it unless the sequester was included.
People live in their own fantasy world of "facts".

The problem for those – including Obama — who want the sequester replaced with more targeted cuts in federal spending is that most people in the country have noticed nothing different in their daily lives since the sequester went into effect on March 1. T
President Obama’s purely symbolic sequester strategy — and why it might work

Quote:
President Obama’s dramatic re-election victory was not a sign that a fractured nation had finally come together on Election Day. But it was a strong endorsement of economic policies that stress job growth, health care reform, tax increases and balanced deficit reduction — and of moderate policies on immigration, abortion and same-sex marriage. It was a repudiation of Reagan-era bromides about tax-cutting and trickle-down economics, and of the politics of fear, intolerance and disinformation.
