The video link is great but I'm NOT lying or being cute when I say that Dec 28 1984 my dad almost did loose an eye when a kid across the street and a few doors down took aim at our porch light and hit him in the face instead with his brand new bb gun...or whatever the hell kind of gun they were giving to kids that year.

Where did you read that this was a BB gun? The OP's link doesn't say that. Was it a BB gun, or an airsoft, which shoots plastic pellets.

At any rate, the safety rules for a BB gun, or an AR-15 (presumably now carried by NYPD like every other major PD) are the same in NYC as in Montana. 1) treat all guns as loaded; 2) keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire; 3) don't let the muzzle cover anything you aren't willing to put a bullet into; 4) be sure of your target, and what lies beyond.

A father being stupid taking a toy gun out into a public space.

Want to play with a toy gun with your kids? Do it in your own home or in a secluded area where there's not a lot of traffic.

Stupid decision, stupid person. Case closed.

A man can't even play with his children in the country. It's just a toy that shoots small round plastic pellets for Pete's sake. According to the news article Leni Calas said “I don’t tend to take things lying down, so I went past the parents, and so I walked straight over and I confronted him,” said Leni Calas. “I mean, he’s brandishing a firearm and I don’t care if that firearm is plastic. That’s unacceptable.”

What a nosy old bitty! An old bitty is a crazy/lame elderly woman who is out of touch with the world yet thinks she knows something relevant and feels compelled to share it.

I can't believe the police actually arrested this father when all that was needed was a little applied logic and conversation. Instead the police and the old bitty wasted taxpayer money with jail and court time. Too much government, too much "people control." It's a mad, mad, mad world.

The father should have shot her in the fanny with a pellet...

Irrelevant. There were not 8.5 million people in the park.

We all know that accidents happen. And yes, BB guns can be dangerous when abused.

I know people who died in a motorcycle accident........ but I continue to ride.

Well laws don't tend to be a case by case basis, so it really doesn't matter if you don't like the fact there are 8.5 million people here.

I never understood "toy guns".

Give your kid a ball.
