Well I actually remember when the Patriot Act came along thinking "I have nothing to hide". Now, if there were hidden cameras in my house, that I would definitely not stand for. As it is with this stuff, shrug.

Didn't read your own link again, I see. Seems the republicans are just as hypocritical as democrats.

Can't the same be said for when the Bush Administration was doing the same thing?

Why is it that you party blind lemmings can't seem to grasp how sad and demented you all are? "It's okay if my party does it but if your party does it then we cause an uproar."

This is for all parties. Party blindness is the exact reason we are where we are today.

From your link:

"These opinions have changed little since an ABC News/Washington Post survey in January 2006.
Currently, there are only modest partisan differences in these opinions: 69% of Democrats say it is more important for the government to investigate terrorist threats, even at the expense of personal privacy, as do 62% of Republicans and 59% of independents.""

So, about that "blind allegiance."

My primary issue with the surveillance under Bush was that they were pushing for warrantless surveillance.

The question in these polls are different between 2002/2006 and 2013. The 2013 question includes a reference to "court ordered" monitoring vs "without court approval" in the earlier question.

That change would make a huge difference in how I would respond to the question.

Yes hardliners from both sides are equally hypocritical.

Yep, that's why I dropped the democratic party pre-Clinton and became in indi. I've voted for candidates from more than one party in several elections.

I found the following statement (embedded in the link provided in the OP) illustrative of the 'big government' fondness / mentality of the anti-Americans on the political extreme right and many in the mainstream GOP in the USA:

Quote:
However, Republicans and Democrats have had very different views of the two operations. Today, only about half of Republicans (52%) say it is acceptable for the NSA to obtain court orders to track phone call records of millions of Americans to investigate terrorism. In January 2006, fully 75% of
Republicans said it was acceptable for the NSA to investigate suspected terrorists by listening in on phone calls and reading emails without court approval.
