So basically what used to be implemented for those who committed serious crimes has now dwindled to the general populace. So now whenever a person is arrest, from peaceful sit downs and protests, petty thefts, loitering etc, their dna will collected and placed in a database. they compare it to fingerprinting and mug shots but it seems very intrusive at the very least. What do any of you think?

I don't have any issue with the DNA swab. If they can take your mug shot, fingerprint you, etc. what does it matter one more identifier. If you don't do anything to get arrested, what's the big deal?

Maybe, just maybe, someone who committed a serious crime, who never was caught, would show up in the database and maybe, someone who is currently serving time for that crime is innocent.

Of course I also have no problems with being issued a National ID card. Heck if you aren't doing anything illegal, what's the problem?

Doesn't matter where it is STRAIGHT out of, that is how I feel. I don't believe in totalitarianism, in fact I feel with the current admin that is where they are headed. I just feel if you aren't doing anything illegal, what's the issue. I think too many people are hung up on the "big brother is watching me." Watching you do WHAT?

Think of the constrictor (Snake) it tightens, and tightens, and tightens....

Any bureaucracy's primary directive is the perpetuation of the bureaucracy...

It can't help itself. And a indirect result of that is the elimination of freedoms.

Who cares that I'm not breaking the law, I don't like my (E)mail read!

I don't care if it's my spam or the pictures my GF sends me when I'm away... don't like it and it's a violation of my natural rights! (As only one example)

It matters to me. A lot of people are arrested wrongfully for one thing and the other is that we all know that the government wants every last piece of information on each individual giving them ultimate control. I see the necessity when they have DNA from the crime scene and a suspect in the crime but other than that, no!

I guarantee you that I take all constitutional rights seriously, but I don't view this any differently than fingerprinting during the booking process.

Believe it or not but you don't necessarily have to do anything to get arrested. My father in law, who has never gotten as much as a speeding ticket, was arrested for armed robbery once, taken to the police station, booked and put in a cell. A few hours later the police realized that they had arrested the wrong Bill M.
My uncle was once arrested and kept in jail for two days for supposedly threatening to kill his wife whom he was in the process of divorcing. He finally got out when she admitted to having made the whole thing up.
There is a reason one is considered innocent until proven guilty. Some arrestees actually are and should be treated accordingly until it's been proven that they are not.

I guess being retired military and working in the defense industry for another 20+ years has provided me with a different view.

Believe me if the government wants to get information on you it will, whether it has your DNA or not and as I stated before, the current administration is a perfect example of taking away your constitutional rights. An example of the change occurring (without your DNA) is the Supreme Courts decision on eminent domain. They can take your property in order to get more taxes...and you're worried about DNA?
