That doesn't change the fact that Republicans fought to have the universal healthcare part removed.
Also, there was a vote on the Public Option which is Universal Healthcare, that was shot down by Republicans and a few conservative Democrats.
"The amendments by Democratic Sens. Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia and Charles Schumer of New York were opposed by all 10 Republicans on the committee and a few Democrats, including committee Chairman Sen. Max Baucus of Montana."
"Republicans unanimously oppose the government-run insurance option, saying it would drive private insurers from the market and eventually bring a government takeover of the health care system."
Issue with public option has always been about funding it. This Medicare for all option, which essentially what the public option is all about. The tax revenue vs expenditures does not add up.
It's easy to say "public option". A lot harder to pay for it. I think Dems especially very liberally Dems have this ideology the world is perfect. Unfortunately what people fail to comprehend is Medicare currently takes up 20% of the entire US budget. Medicare covers 15% of the population.
Public option is essentially expanding Medicare.
How do u pay for it? And that's where the Dems in congress know they can't go to their constituents and tell them taxes will go up for the middle class.
It was suppose to cover everyone when it first started, that hope died when the Republicans blocked Universal Healthcare. If you wanted AHCA to cover everyone, then you need to start questioning the Republicans for blocking the part that would of covered everyone.
How did the repubs blocked it when not a single one of them voted for it (well maybe 1)?
Yeah. where the Dems held the majority. Why did it fail there then?
They didn't have the 60 votes to survive a filibuster that the Republicans were threatening with. Did you not pay attention while all of this was going on?

Actually we pay more for healthcare and cover less than any other country. We are currently running an inefficient system that you are supporting.

so they went around it and used the nuclear option
