I love pits, they are wonderful dogs, but there are too many idiots raising this breed. If they aren't properly socialized, exercised and exposed to all kinds of people and dogs, then you are asking for problems. Therefore I offer a compromise, more to save this breed from further abuse, than anything else.

Ban the breeding and selling. Every time these threads surface I say the same thing. Mandatory spay and neuter, which would eventually extinguish the majority of the problem. No more free puppies or sales advertised in classifieds allowed.

Grandfather in those that are 4 years or older, everything younger gets fixed.

What would happen? You'd probably have ghetto kids selling them, like they sell drugs now. Hiding them in their basements or cellars. At least you would reduce the numbers. I'm not sure you would put a dent in the criminal element or the fighters. Might even increase their value.

note: majority of mixed breed dogs were part pit bull.
Well the libs say one life worth saving is worth banning guns. Now when it comes to Pit Bulls we see a whole different ballgame. Why is that??

No reason to own a pit or any other animal capable of killing humans. Same with pythons or boa's or any other wild animal. That is what they are. Why not just let everybody own a tiger if they so choose? I'm sure when the tiger goes and kills a kid it will be the owners fault right? Nature is in play here. Go buy a damn poodle if you want a dog.

Ask your veterinarian which dogs are the most dangerous? They should know, right?

You didn't even address my solution. Spay n neuter, and the problem resolves itself over time.

Why not just ban all dogs over 20 lbs. Would that make you feel safer?

I don't care which dogs are dangerous. None of em should be "pets" in my view. I'm not on the "I hate pit bull" bandwagon. If an animal kills humans, children mostly, then they don't need to be "pets" in my view. I don't have pet black widow spiders for a reason.

Well I'm not afraid of dogs per say but certain ones seem to go and kill folks. Bob Barker has been braying that for years and nobody seems to listen. They just blame the owners.

I bet you do. And when they kill some kid you will be squealing "My dog was the nicest dog in the world and would never hurt a fly" like they all do in the paper. YOU are the owners I'm worried about. The guy who locks his pit in the back yard and won't let him out is the one I respect at least. He knows what it can do. You............bonkers.

To completely get rid of the "dangers" from animals towards humans there would have to be "safe zones" for the animals. That sounds great on the surface but humans continually encroach on lands that were formally free ranges for said animals. So the natural compromise is an integrating of humans and animals. At the rate we're going humans will be one of the few animals left on the planet and they'll only have cockroaches and crocodiles to fight against for land.

If we're going to talk about what living thing is the most dangerous to other humans hands down it's other humans. There's not even a close comparison with any other animals or, hell, all other animals combined.

The intelligent thing to do is to address the most important issues first and then move down the line... In about 1,000 years you'll finally get to canines if you could find a way to be successful.
