The feds steal money from you by not giving anything back from it, while in Sweden you get lots of things back from the feds. Some Swedes pay 32% income tax, but wages are higher too.
I know about 40 people from Sweden, and they have told me numerous times that income taxes there are 50%, not the 32% number you allude to.
now remember, if we went by the letter of the law, then we as Americans could just not pay into the system because it is supposed to be a moral law and not an actual law.
We dont want an extremely generous welfare system. That not to say that we dont want to take care of the impaired infirm and elderly but an extremely generous welfare system is something they can keep.

Sweden has a progressive tax rate, just like we do.
If the United States brought the Nordic labor system in America.... Would you be for or against it?

Norway exports 4.5 times more petroleum per capita than the US.
In fact, they beat the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Libya, Angola, Venezuela, Iraq, Canada, Iran, Russia and a stack of other countries we normally associate with petroleum exports.

they do live good quality lives however their countries lag in terms of growth.. in order to pay for all this, the taxes everyone pays is eye watering.. its almost 80% if you add everything up.. if their residents only have 20% of your income to spend, their economy is pretty much being choked.. that also explains their high suicide rate. if i got robbed of 80% of my hard earned money every year, i would lose the will to live.. there are countries that enjoy ample economic growth as well as a good quality of life and low unemployment, without being a welfare state and taxing the hell out of their citizens.
