I think that all prison (not jail) inmates, both male and female, with a sentence of more than, say 1 year, should be sterilized as part of their punishment. Criminals only breed more criminals.

Quote:
Dr. James Heinrich, a prison OB-GYN who referred women prisoners for the surgery, told CIR the money spent sterilizing inmates was minimal “compared to what you save in welfare paying for these unwanted children – as they procreated more.”

Former inmates say doctors pressured women into getting sterilized and targeted those deemed likely to commit future crimes.

Not the worst idea in the world, it would probably prevent a lot of abortions, but it's too close to eugenics and would make too many people uncomfortable.

No. A bad idea and unacceptable. You need to think through the reasons that people end up in prison and decide how fair that practice would be.

Sounds about right. In America once you commit a crime, you are no longer considered human.

Considering how America wishes punishment over rehabilitation, it might be the best option just to put a bullet in the back of some one's head if they are convicted of anything but the most minor misdemeanor. Especially for drugs. Con't make a living, can't feed yourself (let alone your family), and more and more people think that treating them more like animals is really going to help. No wonder Canada has some of the safest large cities on the continent.

Forced sterilization is both cruel and unusual and I do not support it.

Though I do believe the option should be available to prisoners if they choose it.

This shouldn't be forced but maybe a financial incentive could be involved. Maybe $200 cash in exchange for sterilization - but no force. Sterilization does result in fewer abortions which is good.

Who's paying?
And what about all those people locked up for non-violent and victimless crimes?
Our government is one of the most violent and immoral in the history of the planet and here we have the control freaks wanting it to play god

The prison population in the US has gone up by 1900% in the time it took the general population to triple. You really think sterilization would stop it?

That's a stupid idea. If you want to sterilize anybody, start with welfare recipients and politicians.
