"Republican" MLK Jr's message on the economy, war and solutions to racism would be totally rejected by the present Republican party.

Based on what? Which party wants school choice/vouchers so that students are no longer trapped in abysmal public schools? And which party ABSOLUTELY INSISTS on keeping inner-city kids trapped in abysmal public schools?

Democrats = NO choice for you

Republicans = EVERYONE should have access to options to learn to the best of their ability

Lott Decried For Part Of Salute to Thurmond

Speaking Thursday at a 100th birthday party and retirement celebration for Sen. Thurmond (R-S.C.) in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Lott said, "I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either."
Thurmond, then governor of South Carolina, was the presidential nominee of the breakaway Dixiecrat Party in 1948. He carried Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and his home state. He declared during his campaign against Democrat Harry S. Truman, who supported civil rights legislation, and Republican Thomas Dewey: "All the laws of Washington and all the bayonets of the Army cannot force the Negro into our homes, our schools, our churches."
On July 17, 1948, delegates from 13 southern states gathered in Birmingham to nominate Thurmond and adopt a platform that said in part, "We stand for the segregation of the races and the racial integrity of each race."

How do you NOT know that Democrats DEPEND on continued oppression of the poor, which are inordinately comprised of minorities, to keep their voter base and guarantee a WIN?

Neither.

Republicans want vouchers to subsidize religious education and cripple the public schools.

Democrats oppose that.

I don't recall King ever speaking to the issue of school choice.

So Republicans are big supporters of Jackson's Rainbow/Push which has its roots in Operation Breadbasket?

King appointed Jackson to head the Chicago branch of Operation Breadbasket. Push has used the tactics first developed at Operation Breadbasket under King's leadership.

Maybe because as a Democrat who would be located on the right side of that chart, I have no desire to join the heard and vote Republican. It is also clear to many that the Republicans have little or no concern for those on the left side of that chart.

you don't have to be a scholar to vote! I know with the various modern day voter suppression tactics of the Republican party, you all may want it to be that way, but its not.

and guess what party the least educated region of the country votes for

Provide incontrovertible proof that widespread voter suppression has been orchestrated in modern times by any party. Allegations are not incontrovertible proof; Nor are vacuous inferences made by amateur bloggers.

You cannot.

Therefore you can't hang; and don't try to. Indeed, your baseless allegations are absurd; a jejune cop out. Pathetic!

I think the Republicans would be wise to sit down and figure out a way to attract more African American voters. They would profit from a re-examination of their platforms and philosophies which turn off minorities in droves.

It's not just Blacks, but ...

Hispanics ...

Asian Americans ...

Jews ...

LGBT Americans ...

Women ...

Americans in the field of education ...

Environmentally concerned Americans ...

Organized Labor ...

... and so on.
