The Republican senators leading the quixotic charge to defund Obamacare and risk a government shutdown will headline an event next month to rally support for their cause.

Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT), Rand Paul (R-KY) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) will headline the "Exempt America from Obamacare Rally" on Sept. 10 on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Other conservative lawmakers like Reps. Steve King (R-IA) and Paul Broun (R-GA) will also participate in the event.

The rally, scheduled to be held the day after Congress resumes following its August recess, is being organized by a number of conservative outfits such as ForAmerica and Tea Party Patriots. The Brent Bozell-run ForAmerica recently likened Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to a chicken for resisting the efforts to defund Obamacare, underscoring the divide in the GOP on the issue.

Cruz, Paul To Headline Rally To Defund Obamacare | TPM LiveWire

Go ahead, guys, shut the government down when you don't get your way. That strategy has worked so well for your party in the past.

Unfortunately for them, neither defunding the ACA nor a government shut down is likely to happen, and Cruz is smart enough to know that. This is nothing more than political posturing to get some cred with the far right for the future.

Good, let them hold their little rally. ACA is here to stay and the only changes that will be made to it in the future is to make it single payer or some other type of reform that is better than as the law stands. The far right is miscalculating this big time

Of course defunding it is the right thing to do, but they'll probably screw that up by offering an alternative

Probably the same alternative Ron Paul's supporters offered, just let the uninsured die.

I am just questioning your support of Obamacare?
A law that is in reality a right wing dream of empowering insurance companies and crony capitialist ambitions.

What death panels?
Just because you repeat this absurdity over and over doesn't mean we'll ever believe it.
There are no death panels.

You want to cut all of these people off from health insurance because of poutrage.
It's the first step towards single payer.

The USSC has declared healthcare legal.

Is this really the US that you want?

A nation divided cannot stand. If the GOP wants to play petty partisan games repeatedly instead of govern, including the millions spent on trying to get rid of Obamacare, the results will be on their heads. They will do so as long as their base cares more about anger and bickering than working towards a better tomorrow.
