And please don't tell me you need it in case Obama tries to invade your home with the US military. Even if that happened you wouldn't stand a chance. They would squash you like a bug.
Why would anyone need to own a Porsche 911 that can go 150 MPH or faster when they could own a Hyundai? It's just not necessary.

Just like going from point A to point B is not a valid reason to own a Porsche, self defense is not a valid reason to own an assault rifle.

18-year-old woman killed in Friday night shooting, Longmont police say
Shooter cooperating with police; no danger to the community

No danger to the community?

Police were called to Longmont United Hospital at 8:02 p.m. Friday on a report of an 18-year-old woman who had been shot, Satur said. Two minutes later, officers were called to 2531 Cambridge Drive on an "unknown problem" at the house. Officers quickly learned that the two calls were related.

The woman died shortly after 9 p.m. at the hospital, Satur said.

"We're the ones who called the police," said a neighbor,

She said her husband was outside and "heard yelling and screaming" from the hosue at 2531 Cambridge Drive. Her husband then saw three or four individuals come out of the house and get into a vehicle and speeding away, leaving the front door of the house open.

The neighbor woman said her husband walked over there and saw blood and an abandoned mobile phone on the stairway. He came and got her, she looked at the scene inside from outside the door, and they then called 911.

"We didn't hear any shots," the neighbor woman said.

Satur said four people -- the victim, shooter, and two witnesses, reportedly ages 12 and 15 -- were in the home at the time of the shooting. The 21-year-old, the man later identified by police as Galley, and the two juvenile witnesses were working with officers.

Later Saturday morning, Satur announced that the man, identified as Nerrek Galley of Orem, Utah, had been arrested about 2:11 a.m. "for actions unrelated to the shooting."

Galley is suspected of child abuse, reckless endangerment and permitting a juvenile to have a firearm, according to an arrest report Satur provided to the media late Saturday morning.

And if he used a knife, or a baseball bat or got drunk and run someone over you would not care.

The first thing you state may or may not be true but the second one is completely false. What do you think an assault rifle is anyway? Assault weapons are banned in MA but I still legally own one of these.

Hint: That's not an assault weapon....

Oh No it is, if my life is be threatened I want the best tool to defend myself. Case in point the riots of the 1960s, the after math of Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina, the Rodney King riots, and an uncertain future.

Valid reason to own any firearm you wish is found in the 2nd Amendment,

That makes him a gunnut IMHO. If there was no gun in that house, that woman would still be alive now. Gun ownership kills innocent people.
and if he used a knife? or baseball bat? or a car?

ownership of a firearm does not make a person a gun nut,

Replace "assault rifle" with any gun that holds high capacity magazines.

Ok....so what do you think a high capacity magazines actually are and why shouldn't a law abiding citizen be allowed to own them?

The 2nd amendment does not apply to any of those scenarios you mentioned. The 2nd amendment only provides one reason and that is not the general "self-defense" reason which is being discussed here. The 2nd amendment also does not specify "any firearm" like you imply. That is your own injection.
