I'm sure that many California gun owners would be happy to go back to the system they had when Reagan made that statement in 1988. No 'assault weapon' ban, no mag restrictions, etc. In fact that was even before HW Bush's import ban, which IIRC was imposed in 1989. So that was a golden era gun-wise, even in California.
Saint Ron would be unelectable in today's Republican party, yet they continue to put him up on a pedestal. Eisenhower, too. Hell, Eisenhower was to the left of some of today's Democrats.
