I don't care if they are demonized or not. They aren't normal. Putin doesn't tap dance around the question like Obama...he is straight forward and 90% of the time correct.
I think Putin's being a paranoid, and wants to discourage individual growth in the interest of patriotism.

Same sex marriages may not produce children, but they sure as hell take care of a lot of unwanted children, through adoption, instead of those kids growing up in an orphanage. conservatives love authoritarians and people who openly hate various groups of people.
Don't want you to embrace anything..but the people should have the right to own and carry weapons where they like. Canada has taken a good step in that direction. That's what's so sad. Putin a former KGB member is more of a president than the marxist in the white house...he is more honest,has more pride and has more of a backbone than Obama ever will.
Aaah, not to rain on your singular parade, but we've always had the right to own weapons in Canada. It has never been illegal to own a weapon. The only thing changed through Harper is the government maintenance of a central database registry to be accessed by LEO's.
Buying a weapon had and continues to be only a matter of applying for a FAC (Firearm Aquisition Certificate) and if you do not have a criminal record as verified by your local cop shop, you're good to go.
Now lest you or other Americans want to bash on a Canadian just for the pleasure of it please remember who it was that introduced Canada into this thread ~ hint; it was not a Canadian.
You need to remember one thing when using Canada as an example for anything related to firarms. We are closer to still being a frontier than your country has been for over 100 years now, hunting still enjoys popularity in every single province as there is still virgin, unexplored territory in every single province not to mention the northern territories. We love our long guns. Handguns; not so much as they're virtually useless for shooting anything one would ordinarily want to in Canada.
We do not feel the need as of yet to run around carrying just for the purpose of self-protection, nor do we wish Canada to ever get to that state.
It would seem you are confusing the dictatorial powers that allow Putin to behave like one, with the nature of your democratcially elected leader who must remain ever mindful of serving alongside a stultified congress hampered by petty political posturing. You can blame Obama for some things but his lack of ability to simply govern as he wishes is not one of them.
