I am glad the vets broke through the barriers. It is shocking that there were armed guards there. Now how much did they cost? Were these guards actually going to detain or harm US citizens, simply going on THIER LAND? The memorials ARE NOT OBAMA'S PRIVATE PROPERTY! That loon even tried to shut down Mt. Vernon, which is private property!

I would have been a nice touch if the vets had stormed the White House and taken over the Oval Office. At least there would then be someone there with an ounce of common sense.
I'd like to get into that Oval Office one day, and kick that asses feet off the desk! I hate this donkey's hind end!

Well, you and Mark Levin make Glen Beck sound sane.

Welcome to being on call in medicine. We do many things for which we are not paid.

2. The government will not be shut down forever. The federal workers will be paid when the government "opens".

3. I like the government shut down. Social Security and Medicare still functions and the military functions. As far as I am concerned, keep it "closed" forever.

4. The Vets only "got" (What the hell- are you that dense???- IT IS THIER RIGHT TO VISIT THAT MONUMENT. IT IS NOT OBAMA'S PRIVELEDGE TO GRANT THAT RIGHT!) to go to the monument through thier OWN INITIATIVE and despite INTIMIDATION FROM ARMED GUARDS!!!!

You fascists have gone overboard when you support the measures of this insane, petty man in the White House.
Do ever actually read what you post?

Ideally, you would pay your balance off on a regular basis. But if you don't find a way to obtain income (revenue, taxes), you can cut your expenses to the bare bones, and still have major problems. You may not be able to get around (DOT), you may not be able keep your lights on (DOE), you may get sick and be unable to receive treatment (DHHS), your yard may start to look like crap because you can't keep it up (DOI), your waste may start leaking into your yard because you can't empty your septic tank or flush your toilet with out water (EPA)....see where I am going with this? You can't always rely on the goodwill of your neighbors (the World) to help you out in this situation. So you go to work to make money (revenues, i.e., taxes), rely on goodwill of family/friends (social programs, means-tested or otherwise), and find some side hustles (e.g., interest on debts owed, investments of all sorts including small businesses) so you can make money to pay for a decent living. Sometimes you have borrow money from someone to keep your life going.

You see, you have to have money in this day and age to survive. Our government runs because of tax revenues. No revenues, no government. No government, no internal or external security. No internal/external security....well, you will find out if your neighbors are naughty or nice.

The alternative to this is to go all "My Side of the Mountain", but I am sure that will get old and be very difficult.
Nice to read some factual posts for a change. Your observation above that our tax rates are at historical lows is what makes the Tea Party fiasco so crazy. The truth is, the GOP congressmen have signed Grover Norquist's anti-tax pledge, so they have convinced themselves that cutting is the only option. There is no way to dig out of this with cutting. What are 55 year old NASA scientists going to do on the private market? Who is going to pay the pensions of the boomers? Etc. Excessive cutting will just tank the economy. With ideologues, the difficult thing is they just get more voracious with any concessions. We have been cutting taxes since the days of Reagan, but the right wingers here are still outraged and wanting to go for the kill. I see precious little desire for sustainable governance. Strange times.

What part of that don't you understand?

But Michelle Bachmann did get on camera so - that's always a plus for her.

The open air monumnets ARE NEVER SHUT DOWN. Shutting them down takes an effort and expense by adding guards and barriers, which ARE NEVER THERE. The monuments were not closed in the previous government shutdowns. Why now?

What part of that do you not understand?

The closing of monuments and memorials is simply a petty, small man trying to "punish" citizens for the "insubordination" of the republican congressmen!

This is the way the government works. As of yet, we do not have a "Fuhrer", despite the wishes of the libs. This situation cuts both ways- Obama and Reid could compromise, but they won't.

"I won" — Barack Obama

That is the reason for the shutdown. Democrats refusing to negotiate. It's "Our way or no way." They are holding America hostage.

This is not about the Democratic party or President Obama conservatives have got to stop focusing on beating them and really think what is best for the nation.

What is the conservative plan for the this shutdown that is hurting people right now? Why are they doing it?

They have taken doing anything to Obamacare off the table and if you don't understand that, then you are blind. So why the shutdown because they can't lose to Democrats and President Obama?

Cause seriously there is no principle being stood up for. Again the repeal of Obamacare is GONE. The defunding of Obamacare is GONE. The Delay of Obamacare is GONE and soon even the delay of the individual mandate will be GONE which they no longer even talk about.

So why are they continuing to shutdown the government?

Will some conservative think. And say yeah the whole reason to do this shutdown is GONE. They have already caved.

Actually, it does according to an interview with the head of Parks. There is trash that must be removed; bathrooms must be cleaned; there are people on staff who prevent vandalism; other staff are public safety.

I see you can refute anything. It is best not to question the Fuhrer.

Tell me, WHY WERE THE MONUMENTS AND OTHER MEMORIALS NOT CLOSED IN PREVIOUS SHUTDOWNS?

Oh, and did those veterans get to visit the site or not? Much to do about nothing.
In life, it happens all the time. It happened to me a time or too. I went to work like any other day, and later was told by my boss that there were cuts being made, and I was being laid off.

Life isn't fair. That's just the way it is.

If you don't like what's happening, you can tell your Democrat representatives to start negotiiating and quit their ridiculous refusal to compromise.
