Unlike "rogue state" Israel which has nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons and refuses to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty or allow inspectors of its nuclear programs . . . Iran is a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and does allow inspections.

Israel was quite prepared to respond very forcefully when Sadam was raining scuds down on Israel but the U.S. pleaded with them to suffer for a few more days until Patriot missile systems coub be deployed to protect them. The U.S.'s concern at that time was; any military response from Israel would result in a large scale retaliation and destabilization of some Arab nations. Whooot; I guess we now see how that all worked out, eh?
I wonder to this day how history's events would have been changed had Israel been allowed to slip it's leash at that point in time. Perhaps the Arabs and the U.S. would have all received a marked lesson in "poking sticks into places they should not be poked elliciting a ten-fold response".

IMHO - Iranians are developing nuclear power reactors because it has uranium as well as oil and the oil sells for more in the international market. Besides why should they build their own bombs when the can buy them on the black market?
