In a New York Times op-ed published on Thursday, Kentucky’s governor implores his fellow Southern states to put the health of their citizens above the politicized fight over Obamacare. Gov. Steve Beshear (D) notes that the health reform law could have a huge impact on the struggling Americans who live in red states, and he’s “offended” that so many state leaders are so preoccupied with resisting it.

Kentucky Governor: Obamacare Is A 'Historic Change' That's Desperately Needed In Red States | ThinkProgress
I wonder if this is the reason that the Tea Party is so foaming at the mouth opposing it. Which red state resident that receives affordable insurance is going to vote for the guy that wants to strip it away? Could this be the radical right's motive for their rebellion?

It's no secret that the GOP wants to stop Obamacare before it starts is because they desperately fear it will work, which will undermine their whole view that government can't do anything.

It is a shame because not having health insurance kills people. It really is not a game.

It'd be one thing if they genuinely thought that the new ACA law was not the way to go, but had their own plans to get healthcare to millions more people, but they don't.

So their plan is people go without and that's that. Yet, they lie and say oh we want everyone covered well where is your plan?

They have nothing.

This is why the current crop of republicans is truly scraping bottom. Deny a fundamental right to millions of fellow citizens, even their own voters, so they can stick it to the uppity guy. Pathetic is too kind a word.

Healthcare is no more a right than a retirement fund. The work and expertise of others is in no way your "right."

Their entire platform will collapse or should I say...House of Cards? No, it is no small wonder that this is kryptonite for them. I remember after the last election they were supposed to do some rebranding and make their party more palatable...what happened was that they just did not have it in them to do so. Gerrymandering, voter surpression and the demonization of The ACA are all they could muster and the latter is the the real craw in their throat.

I'm wondering when health insurance became a fundamental right.

No one is being denied health insurance, people have the CHOICE to purchase health insurance if they feel it is in their best interests. 85% of Americans have health insurance.

If you want more people to choose health insurance then you should have started with tort reform and improving the economy (since most insurance comes as part of a compensation package). Obama has done nothing to address the rising costs of health coverage and just mandated people have it, then force others to pay for it. It is a crappy system where the only group to benifit are a small minority who will be on the dole and large health care providers. The democrat way, handouts to those who make poor life choices and big business on the backs of the middle class.

Maybe, but of all the advanced countries in the world, we are the only that does not provide it for our citizens. Yet, we outspend all other countries by massive margins in the military. Republicans have no credibility on this issue, as they have tried to kill it repeatedly, but never put forward a viable alternative.

Here's a Map of the Countries That Provide Universal Health Care (America's Still Not on It) - Max Fisher - The Atlantic

Take a look at this map. Would you rather live in one of the green or grey countries?

We decide what are rights. It's self-evident that the nation is better because we have Social Security and Medicare and will be even better when all are insured.

We get to decide when the constitution is amended to include them, last time I read the constition I didn't see anything about health insurance.
