What happened next is both Walmarts were jammed packed. Entire shelves were cleared as EBT card holders raced to the stores and filled up carts with anything they could grab.

Walmart began accepting the cards on good faith at 7:00 PM. However, at 9:00 PM the balances started showing again. Immediately a woman was caught trying to “buy” $700 worth of stuff with a balance of $.49.

When loudspeakers announced that EBT balances were showing again, dozens of patrons immediately abandoned their carts. It seems the majority of the the people remaining in line were knowingly trying to defraud Walmart. Both Walmarts were left cluttered with jam packed carts. The EBT card holders were simply trying to get more free stuff at Walmart’s expense.

Perishable items left in the carts were ruined.

EBT users abuse generous Walmart to steal goods
Those Wal-Mart managers have been listening to liberals too much.

They actually though that liberal ideas would work???

EBT went down in 17 states but only these two predominantly black towns are there reports of looting (yes I call it looting). Walmart made a mistake by not putting a $100 or so limit on the transactions.

I wonder how much was shoplifted out of the electronics department while all this was going on?

Walmart, unlike other retailers in the impacted areas, made the business decision to proceed and announced it within their stores. What were they thinking?

Big Box merchants all use real time check verification systems. If the system is temporarily down, they do not accept checks.

Credit card processing companies experience temporary glitches from time to time. If the consumer does not have other means to pay for their purchases, the sale does not happen.

Wal Mart was stupid but also throw this on Obama's doorstep. They deliberately cut off the EBT cards through a manufactured bug to stoke public anger over the shut down which was until now just a PR nuisance. Nice thing, jerking around his own supporters like that.
They should keep tabs on every one of those purchases, every dime and subtract that from their next handouts.
They should let these savages fend for themselves. Disgusting, vile people.

Walmart should stop honor all EBT and the likes, it only brings in the worst humanity has to offer and makes you want to take a shower after mingling with those vagabonds.

Seriously? Falsely presenting a form of payment. WalMart was unable to verify a balance, that does not mean they were unable to track the purchase to the card. I agree there will be much protesting if the state deducts future payments to make up the deficit.

Toll free verification may work when the problem is localized to a given retail store. States routinely outsource their EBT card processing to the private sector. The entire private system failed.

No telling how the contract between the state and private sector system deals with responsibility for a major outage.
