To spend or not spend is for the House to decide. To fund or not to fund ObamaCare is their "right to choose," and based on the enormous cost and the amount of waste involved in ObamaCare, and our current debt, not funding it would reassert the fiscal function they were entrusted with.

Benjamin Franklin would be proud of Republican efforts to defund ObamaCare.

The "Great Compromise."

Finally. A post that recognizes that the republicans are also responsible for the shutdown.

Not quite. The refusal of the Democrats compromise and negotiate is the reason for the shutdown.

But this is NOT a "shutdown thread." That was not the reason I started it, so please, no discussing the shutdown here.

You may discuss the funding or not funding of ObamaCare.

The Founding Fathers, wanted to form a government that did not allow one person to have too much authority or control. While under the rule of the British king they learned that this could be a bad system.

With this in mind the framers wrote the Constitution to provide for a separation of powers, or 3 separate branches of government. Each has its own responsibilities and at the same time they work together to make the country run smoothly and to assure that the rights of citizens are not ignored or disallowed. This is done through checks and balances.

Executive Branch:
President: Leader of the country and commands the military.
Vice President: President of the Senate and becomes President if the President can no longer do the job.

Legislative Branch:
House Of Representatives:
Power of the purse
Can hold a trial for a government official who does something very wrong.

Senate:
Say yes or no to any treaties the president makes.
Say yes or no to any people the president recommends for jobs, such as cabinet officers, Supreme Court justices, and ambassadors.
Can hold a trial for a government official who does something very wrong.

The Founders had severe limitations as evidenced by the detrimental effect that today's pathetic Republicans are having in decimating Congress and our society. They thought black people would forever be slaves, yet here the nation is being so effectively run by a black man.

Today, the nation applauds DEMOCRATS, while Republicans continue their free fall. You continue to speculate about what dead people might've thought, while reality favor the preservation and perpetuation of liberals and progressives.

Someone forgot to tell Obama about the constitution and why it was set up -> So no one person is allowed to gain too much control.

Reid recently made a speech where he asked "What right does the House have". Harry, they have every right according to the constitution. You should start practicing according to the constitution as you know it was intended.

The Founding Fathers would not be applauding the Republicans' inability to compromise when this country was founded on compromise.

This thread is not about race, or being raised as a victim.

When the Constitution is compromised without an amendment, who loses?

It's an example of why SOME of the founding fathers' thinking could be viewed as slightly outdated today.
