Has anyone realized if this were not true, the GOP would be spending their time formulating mainstream 2014 and 2016 campaigns to win the other chambers, which would make the elimination of A/C/A through democratic, conventional means a reality?

It would take 60 Senate votes to repeal so they have to pick up 14 seats. Not gonna happen.

Wikipedia covers it pretty well. Here's the starting snip, you can click to read the rest:
"With the Republican minority in the Senate vowing to filibuster any bill that they did not support, requiring a cloture vote to end debate, 60 votes would be necessary to get passage in the Senate.[91] At the start of the 111th Congress, Democrats had only 58 votes; the Senate seat in Minnesota that would be won by Al Franken was still undergoing a recount, and Arlen Specter was still a Republican.
To reach 60 votes, negotiations were undertaken ..."

Realistically, the TP fringe has cost the GOP any real shot at either POTUS or even 50 Senate seats.

A huge price to pay, with no gains to show for it, since I hardly count hissy fits as gains.

I'm right there with ya.

Partisan politics aside, once the government collapses, we'll see a 100% reduction in Federal spending.
That should really make everyone happy.
