Interesting in both my undergraduate and graduate internships at evil capitalist corporations I not only received a wage but a bonus.

[quote]The fellowship offered by Mother Jones is neither an internship nor an entry-level job—“No coffee or laundry errands here!” says the magazine—but the compensation could fool you: “Fellows receive a $1,000 monthly stipend.” Assuming a 40-hour workweek (many journalists work much longer hours than that), that means a fellow at Mother Jones earns less than $6 an hour in a state, California, that just decided to raise the minimum wage to $10.

I, a liberal, would never work for such a bunch of cheapskates. They may have a liberal editorial policy but at heart they are a conservative and exploitative business. BTW - do the Konservative rags pay any better?

Probably not but they are not browbeating others to pay their workers a living wage for the heck of it.

Default Mother Jones Urged Its Interns to Go on Food Stamps Because It Pays So Little

Get out!!!!!You mean the liberal media outlets are exploiting their workers. No way!!!!!!!!

[quote]There's one thing that underpaid McDonald's workers and underpaid editorial interns at Mother Jones have in common: their employers told them to apply for food stamps.

What is a 'fellow'?

Internships are going more and more to paying nothing. Free labor from college students to put something on their resume.

It's quite controversial.

In light of these two articles (and many more I didn't cite), it is rather ironic about "internships" we see at these places. Imagine the outcry if McDonald's suddenly started hiring interns and paid them nothing or "stipends". I wonder if the authors of these articles are paid employees of Mother Jones?

That's still better than having to PAY for an education.
