And by the way, the population in the US is amongst the fattest in the world. And the diet is among the highest in processed foods, AND people get little exercise. The CDC says obesity has risen at an epidemic rate. Currently around 30 % are OBESE, not just overweight.

that is because it is, I would love to see some real stats or real feedback from a Canadain

How about the DOD?Does it have a lot of overruns and wasteful spending?

What about the FDA,have drugs ever gotten through that have fatal side effects?

By the way,the NHS was held up as the model of success by those in favor of a national health system...

I am personally sick of seeing millions and billions of dollars being handed to middleman who do nothing towards me getting better

Health care should be a right for every American and every Citizen on the planet, it is beyond disgusting we have a for profit capitalist health care system in this country

Americans are very unhealthy, the most unhealthy in the industrialized world. True, we smoke less than Europeans or the Japanese, but our diets are horrible and we don't exercise at all.

Instead of lampooning community cycling programs, as Rep. Patrick McHenry of North Carolina does, Republicans should support stuff like that. Stuff that kills two birds with one stone: obesity and oil dependence. Fortunately, the bill passed. But some Americans have their heads stuff in the sand. As long as we let the fast food industry off the hook and encourage automobiles, TV's, and couch potatoes playing video games, we'll continue to die earlier and earlier.

Ah, but define "rich". The reason universal health care scares me so much is it will probably be just like the tax system. The really rich can afford the premiums or can afford to buy private insurance. The lower income group will pay nothing. That leaves the middle class to pay for eveything again.

Try having a child in America...you will figure out why this healthcare system is worthless in the United States. Healthcare in US is entirely too stressful, litigious and way too costly.

HMO's are a drain on our existence, it is like dealing with a lawyer to get a broken arm fixed. PPO's are entirely too expensive, my company is doing away with them both and going to an Employee Pay In system, which should be what our government should do.

I would love to have universal health care just for the sake of not having to worry if my kid falls down or to take the load off of having to file claims or defending a claim from those insurance companies that could care less about people.

We do not have to go to socialized medicine!

Healthcare is available to everyone - regardless of their ability to pay.

There are those who voluntarily choose not to have health insurance - that's their problem - not mine

For those who are unable to acquire health insurance, there are ways of seeing they get some without throwing out the entire tub of bathwater

IMO, any attempt to radically change the system in this country, at this point in our history, would be IMPOSSIBLE!

Hmmmm.
I can't speak for all countries, but I can speak for Ireland. In Ireland, some people purchase supplemental private insurance in order to see a specialist within a week. Without the supplemental insurance, they may have to wait 3-4 weeks to see a specialist. Imagine that!

As long as you aren't sick I guess it works fine....

A close friend's Swedish mother needed cancer treatment, due to her age it wasn't a 'priority' for the national health system, luckily her son could pay for it.
