What the president calls "my military" is being cleansed of any officer suspected of disloyalty to or disagreement with the administration on matters of policy or force structure, leaving the compliant and fearful.
We have commented on some of the higher profile cases, such as Gen. Carter Ham. He was relieved as head of U.S. Africa Command after only a year and a half because he disagreed with orders not to mount a rescue mission in response to the Sept. 11, 2012, attack in Benghazi.
Rear Adm. Chuck Gaouette, commander of the John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group, was relieved in October 2012 for disobeying orders when he sent his group on Sept. 11 to "assist and provide intelligence for" military forces ordered into action by Gen. Ham.
It is interesting that the article attempts to include the firing of General Carey with the others. But it never says why Carey was fired (removed from command). Carey was fired for "personal misbehavior" and of course the management of US nuclear weapons, particularly at Minot has been subpar for years.
I can't comment on the other firings. But Carey is essentially being fired for cause.
Giardinia is charged with a felony related to use of counterfeit gambling chips. If he is dumb and greedy enough to use fake gambling chips I don't want him in charge of nuclear weapons.

Well............... at least he did not kill them, as Stalin did in his officer purge. Perhaps he will be more direct in the future.
That is a big stretch... in ANY political administration, if a direct order is disobeyed by military officers (even if they are 150% morally right), the only outcome is removal from service.... Obama isn't a cause of it, that's just the way things are in the military...
I doubt the firings were not for cause based on reading the blurb. We have too many officers as is in this top heavy military of ours. Similar to what one would expect in a banana republic.
If there was an Obama administration lead culling for political reasons I would have heard of it months ago if not longer.
We should be talking about a much smaller military in the order of $400 billion instead of $600 billion. There will be a lot more than 197 officer sacked. Sequestration will force more budget cuts and maybe it wont be sacking but we will have a smaller military.

Yep...we need to go back to pre-9/11 spending levels. And then cut some more after that.
