Wanted to say, I agree with brentwoodgirl about TN. From what I hear, TN has a lot going on.
I don't understand the hate.
When I retire, I will more than likely leave the country period and go to Belize or something where my money will last me longer and where I can be a lazy American and not have to learn another language fluently. If I can't do Belize, I'll go ahead and increase my knowledge of Spanish and move to some stable, Central or South American country.
Belize is a great country. I did a study abroad in Central America, and it's one of my favorite countries in the world. I do think it's getting more expensive though, as it is becoming more high profile. And last time I was there, they only had one kind of beer, Belikin. But you can go over into one of the little border towns in Mexico and find 25 cent Coronas.

People move to lower cost regions in retirement. Red states are typically lower cost for many reasons and people are willing to put up with ignorance, bigotry, etc, for financial reasons.
You seem to forget that Washington is really two states. You have the high-priced and liberal western corridor, and the rest of the state, which, aside from a little of Spokane, is quite red.
No, it is still all one state. If you like I can ask my dad which state of Washington he lives in and he will tell me the only state of Washington.
Washington debunks this by having no state income tax which tends to be attractive to retirees.
Property tax is the one that's bad for retirees because.... it's not based on income, it's based on what you own. Texas property taxes are about 3%, so on the typical $300k house, you're paying $9000/yr which is a lot for a retiree.
Do a google search on internal (from another state within the US) migration to CA. As I recall, the peak occurred in1979. At some point in the last 15 years there is more out than in migration. Illegals are now their main migrants.
"Net domestic migration" to CA has been negative for more than 20 years. CA's population is increasing only via births and immigrants.
this is simple. liberals live where they can suffer through life. places like NYC, DC, etc. once they are done paying their "fair share" they move to the south, where they can rely on slavery to give them a good quality of life.
