Why does everyone want the rich to pay higher taxes just so it can go into the greedy inefficient hands of the government?

We need a system in place minus the self serving government.

Charities and organizations that connect the rich to the needy. (which now includes the middle class thanks to large government).

Just giving it to the government will do nothing, they will waste it like they have time and again.

Can you explain how they "changed the scale"? It's a consistent scale across the graph. 0%-6%. What, because it's not a 0-100% graph it has no meaning? Can you argue the fact that the largest bar is below poverty for a household? Can you argue that there is a jump at the high end, meaning that we are divided with a bunch of people at the low, a good number of people at the very high, but not many in the comfortable middle? And if this is indicative of our "biology" and "political structure", then maybe we really are that screwed up.

Somehow, though, I don't think your position is that it would be better if this graph a little more like a bell than a corpse.

Actually, most people I know think that the better solution would be to pay much better wages so that people who are working actually earn enough to stand on their own. Then, you wouldn't have to worry about taxing the rich so that the government could support the poor. The poor wouldn't be as poor because they would actually be earning wages to support themselves. But, then all business would fail because they can't survive without double-digit millions/billions in profit, obviously.

And if you believe that charity would receive nearly as much without tax breaks provided to the givers by government, I will literally fall on the ground and laugh at you.

This needs to change and some people do not see this as a problem . This right here is why republicans should never have a majority of any every again if they do they will own 60% to 70% of the wealth and US will be a third world country
The top 1% of good looking people marry good looking people . I will never be part of that 1 % either. When we stop worrying about what others have and whining its not fair and instead work with what we do have people can be happy

If capitalism worked then we wouldn't need the government subsidizing a fifth of the nation.

Capitalism is a benign system and isn't the root of the problem.

absolutely right. take everything away from george soros, warren buffet, the koch brothers, and every other rich person today, and with in a year or two they will be back among the rich again. and take those assets you took from the rich, and give them to the poor, and the poor will be poor again with in the year or two as well.
Please. The Koch brothers inherited their money. Soros is rumored to have been born to a wealthy family-but to be honest Im not seeing a ton of factual references to his childhood. Buffet's father was a congressman, and later owned an investment house. nope no money there.

Look you can peddle that fantasy all you want-the reality is that wealth like there takes both hard work, luck, and a good starting base. The ones you mentioned all work hard. But so do millions of Americans. then you need luck. And thats pretty random. And these days...you often need a good starting base. I believe there was a time that all it took was hard work. The later hard work and some luck. But these days? hahaha. no. You take all of these people money away and they will not be among the rich again.

As for the poor? Yes some of them would blow it. These are the typical "I deserve this because I am special people". I have a sister-she'd probably start a lawn mowing company. Another one would invest it and ignore it, I'd do a little of both. But I have some people I know...they'd blow it all.

But the populace doesn't care. They rather talk about the Kardashians or what Miley Cyrus did. This structure has been in place for a while. And the American populace has feel to sleep.

Indeed, it does: our progressive tax system. The rich pay a disproportionately high share of the federal income tax revenue, MUCH more than their share of the income.
This graph seems to contradict the statements in the "liberals are smarter than conservatives" thread. This seems to indicate republicans earn more.

Just last month Obama gave a speech on income and education and the benefits.

So if more education = more earnings, and republicans earn more....

We have Democrats in power dude. The Democrat agenda is anti-poor, anti-middle class. This is the expected outcome of the big govt. corporatist system.

If you want to see a robust middle class and a poor class with great class mobility, then join the Tea Party. If you want to see the wealthy elite gain more money, power, and control, be a fascist/progressive.

Soros has done his best to sweep his Nazi past under the rug. Soros is a disgusting, disgusting individual and it is a shame that he has been allowed to buy off much of the media to keep them from exposing him.
