Global competition and technology changed all that. 15% off manufacturing jobs were eliminated between 2000-2010 due to technology.

If such jobs become $15/hr jobs, it makes a lot of sense for business owners to invest in technology instead of relying on people.
Working blue collar in mfg for 40 hours a week is not the same as no skill 20 hour a week work.
Even blue collar requires some skills.

Companies lay off thousands, then demand immigration reform for new labor | WashingtonExaminer.com

"The companies claim the bill is an 'opportunity to level the playing field for U.S. employers' but it is more of an effort to level the wages of American citizens."

Wake up Americans.
So why is it that conservatives are voicing opposition to the immigration bills that will import workers and allow illegal aliens to remain in the country to take away jobs, and the libs are all for it? But in the next breath these same libs will claim ti's not themselves, but conservatives who don't care about the unemployed and want to enrich big business and corporations

"It is difficult to understand how these companies can feel justified in demanding the importation of cheap labor with a straight face at a time when tens of millions of Americans are unemployed," writes the Center for Immigration Studies, which strongly opposes the Senate Gang of Eight bill and similar measures. Well the Senate added it to their bill and passed it.
So your government sides with big business.

That amnesty bill has increase visa numbers for high skill, medium skill, low skill and no skill.
Not only will the illegals get to stay but we open our borders to workers and their families to "come on in..the water's fine".

To gt a handle on the level of skills, experience and maturity to be a burger flipper, these jobs are perfect for a 16 year old high school kid.

These are entry-level jobs for young teens entering the workforce.

Good question. Maybe our liberal listmates can answer that question.

And it pisses me off. You'd think the democrats would be on our side, but noooo, they are lemmings and go along with it all, blindly following self serving greedy politicians, and stick a knife in the back of their own unemployed neighbors.

How are we going to create jobs for Americans at home, if our government is more concerned with increasing visas to give away jobs to foreigners?

If I owned a fast food franchise and some of my employees walked out to protest, they can keep walking.

They would be fired.

My son had to work Wed til 9pm and Friday had to be at work at 10am
He wasn't scheduled those hours though.

4 people quit because they couldn't get extra days off for Thanksgiving.
That was Wed morning last week.
The 4 positions have already been filled now and my son starts training them tomorrow when they start.

I think in the long run their is a chance the workers might get stiffed because they will not get any where near 15 bucks a hour. The workers could end up with 50 cents to a buck with the union promise of getting better money down the line. In the mean time those poor saps with their measly wage will stuff the coffers of the union. I have seen this take place before, that company did not pay squat and then they went union and are still paid squat. But their union, the pay is so low for hard steady work I would never take a job there.

Instead of a store with 30 employees getting $7.00/hour, you will have maybe 5 employees getting $15.00/hour and their job will be to keep the machines that automatically cook and package the food full and clearing error codes. Cashiers are useless in this era of ATM machines. The only interaction with the customer will be to handle complaints.

Either you live in a a pineapple under the sea or in another country because it sure isn't America.

In the current American economy theres not really a large amount of choice jobs out there. Nobody can just get a new skillset so casually either.
