I saw this discussion idea as what presidents may deserve such an honor, were it to be done. Not whether such a thing should actually happen, again.

The idea of defacing yet another mountain in such a way is abhorrent to me.

Were it to be done, though, I would think it would be better done on a global scale, and pick four people from the world at large. As memorializing a bunch of politicians seems just wrong in my book.

Obama has "re-set" everyone's view of what constitutes a bad president. Even Carter looks good in comparison. Think of how easy it is going to be for the next president. Even with mediocre performance, they will look like Lincoln/Washington/Jefferson all rolled into one.

None. I don't know of any politicians today or in the last 100+ years who deserve such a memorial.

What was wrong with Eisenhower
He kept the peace, had a decent economy, helped create the interstate highway system, etc.
You would never know it based on the biased history being taught today, but he had as much to do with building up the "space race" and NASA as Kennedy did.

I suggest that the hypothetical mountain be made of four giant 'potato heads'. Then we may switch out the characteristics of each potato head (eyebrows, nose, mouth, ears, etc, associated with a particular President) as necessary to reflect current public opinion.

While that is a novel idea, can you imagine what a nightmare it would be to pick 3-5 people on a global scale?
Just the endless debates that would go on about which American presidents would pale in comparison to the entire world. If even one religious figure was picked, you can imagine all the other major religions demanding their religion be represented. The same would be true of the different ethnic cultures. In todays PC environment, liberals would demand equal representation of every race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

Yeah, we'd end up with the entire Himalayan range being re-designed.

Obama: First President who couldn't trace all his ancestors back to Northern Europe
Clinton: All the ladies loved him. Only President in modern history to pass a balanced budget
Kennedy: Two words - Marilyn Monroe
Nixon: hey, gotta be bipartisan. Opened relations with China, ended Vietnam war.
