Is anyone watching the memorial service for Mandela now? I don't get why there are so many people in the background who are cheering, smiling, dancing and mugging for the camera like they were at a soccer match rather than at a funeral service. Can these people not stay quiet and be respectful even when someone is being laid to rest??
Pretty much the only people who act like they are at a funeral are the foreigners.
Exactly, it's a cultural thing and since you are obviously not of that culture you don't get it. That stated who says people have to behave in a way that you feel is appropriate?
Why do you people always try to impose your values on others? Why do you people always assume that the way that the people in your culture would behave at a funeral is the best and only way to behave? What makes your culture's way of memoralizing the dead superior to any other?

I beat you both to it, post 59, LOL. Anyway, it's nothing but the truth. Washington and Mandela were both the leaders of a people seeking freedom from oppression. When you compare the degree of repression in the two different cases it's very clear the American colonists were not oppressed 1% to the same degree as the Black South Africans. The "revolution" in South Africa just totally amazed me. I expected a major major genocide on all sides. The people who had been treated as sub humans for centuries and the oppressors who saw their privileged world slipping away, who also possessed a strong military power. I really can not think of another case like this in the entire history of the world. Mandela who was the de facto leader of all in this change is truly a giant in world history.

Exactly!, and let's not forget that Washington and most of the other founders of The United States also did their fair share of upholding and enacting oppression of African slaves and American Indians.

America and Americans have supported many of the most bloodthirsty tyrants ever seen on this earth. You seem to have a habit of supporting the wrong ones however. This is revisionist history. Nelson Mandela was in prison for 27 years. He didn't have anything to do with bombing civilians.
