I'm just glad to live in a society where things like this can be considered controversies. It means we apparently don't have anything more important to worry about.
I doubt the folks across the globe dealing with hunger, civil war or human trafficking give a rat's behind what Santa looks like.
I think with America's changing demographics a lot of fictional characters in our culture will need to be revamped to appeal to the younger audience. Marvel and DC comics have noticed this and that is why many of our traditional superheros are of different ethnic backgrounds in several of the new spin off comics.
It's one thing to create new characters that aren't white. That's fine.
It's another to take one that's been around for over a hundred years and change them from white to another color.
Nah we just have some ass backwards people. Have you met the older generation? They can't cope with change.
Change is good when it's needed. Not when it's absolutely useless and based on idiotic and incorrect thinking like the one espoused by the author of the article.
Yes, it is. And so I propose that America abandon Santa-as-fat-old-white-man and create a new symbol of Christmas cheer. From here on out, Santa Claus should be a penguin.
That’s right: a penguin."
...
Actually, it should be a polar bear. And after the delivery of presents has been completed, there should be a ritual sacrifice of the reindeer. Rudolph would be spared, however, as his red nose is a beacon to heaven and we all want to go to heaven.
[maybe Santa could rub it for good luck or better sexual stamina]
Santa Claus should be a dog, because they have a better soul, and more empathy than most humans.
