Why should being a small minority mean that respect for their rights is negated? Phil also thought that blacks were happy under jimcrow. Why should ignorance be celebrated?
And while it was unwise, Phil can say what he wants. A and E has every right to give him the boot if he ceases to represent their 'brand' properly. I hope it goes to something like the hunting channel where it belongs.
I give A and E cudos for keeping to their principles. And the whole beards and country cute if fake anyway.
Heh, looks like Under Armour sticking with Phil and DD.
And no ones rights were violated. Explain to me whose rights were violated.
It's not the same thing. Phil can blabber on all he wants. Its his constitutional right. Nobody is arguing about that.
But there are concequences. Aand E has a 'brand' flavor and Phil by taking their money represents it. They can't say don't have views, but making a public spectacle of it is their business. They have every right to suspend him if they choose. As I posted in another thread, Annette wore one pieces in the beach party movies. This was because she had a contract with Disney and they did not feel that Annette in a bikinni was appropriate to someone under contract with them. Phil is under contract with A and E. He represents them. When he said these things he was representing them. They can dump him if they choose for mis representing A and E.
Others have been booted from network shows for behavior not acceptable by the network and this is another instance of that.
Right. A&E is still showing the episodes aren't they ?
They didn't fire him either..he's on "hiatus".
You have no idea what is in his contract.
It was doing the GQ interview as him, not A&E.
What is interesting about the analogy, to "Archie Bunker", is that the entire diatribe, from Phil Robertson, could have come straight from Archie, himself! Back in the 70's, his obviously racist, homophobic statements were taken as humor, and the context of who he was, working class, conservative.
What so many people in DC, New York, and California don't get, is that even in 2013, the majority of the population, believe in conservative values, and identify with Robertson. Politically incorrect? Yes.
These people are not out marching for gay marriage, or marching much at all...but they attend church, watch TV, and spend money. And, as Cracker Barrel found out, they eat out...
This will be interesting to watch, what happens next? Will A&E cave? Retract? Go on without Duck Dynasty? Will Duck Dynasty end up on another channel? The Robertson family does not need the money, they are doing fine...I say, Robertson called the bluff, and he holds the cards. A&E has already lost the hand...
But All in the Family was satire. It was about saying the things people weren't supposed to say and talking about them. In the end Archie wasn't hateful, just ignorent. And he was called on what he said.
The things Robertson said were derogitary and hurtful. He may believe how he wants, but all he's doing is showing his own littleness. Only little weak people use hate to make themselves sound right. He seems to think that AandE has no right to discipline him, but he is taking their money and speaking for them. If they don't choose to accept his words, they can fire him. It has happened many times with real name actors so isn't alone.
I think they should shave off the beards, go back to their little world and make money without A and E. Let them fill his space with something more worthwhile than a fake backwoods family who are really not even that.
It sure didn't take Cracker Barrel long to issue its regrets.
GLAAD may run Hollywood, but they've never stepped foot in a Cracker Barrel. This one blew up in their face, and in their words "we regret calling this one wrong"
People are sick of being told not only what they can say, but how they must think.
Maybe it's time for GLAAD to acknowledge that religious freedom is protected as well, and like it or not, every major religion views the act as a sin.
He wasn't talking about gays in that quote, he was talking about those who turn their back on God and refuse the Bible -- unrepentant sinners and all types of sinful behaviors.
So because I'm not christan, and do not believe the bible is the word of god but a collection of fables, and in the end it is far more harmful than any good it has in it then I'm a terrible person according to Phil????
If one wishes to be christan, and it works for them, then fine. Most christans are NOT hateful like Phil. If one finds a different faith works for them then fine too. But the bible does not make the rules of today and should not be used to define them.
Phil needs to go back to his office and shave off his beard and he can be as hateful as he wants without A and E needing to fire him.
Oh yes. Standing up for granting the same legal rights to all American citizens is clearly a "butthead" view.
Why do you support legal discrimination against your fellow citizens?
Everyone has the right to marry the person of the opposite sex they desire. Everybody has that legal right.
