Sheila Jackson Lee, doing what she does best -- wasting oxygen, and showing her mental prowess out on Twitter..

Really, SheJack? 250k killed a year by AK-47s? Surely you're a bit brighter than that, right?

Somebody give this "gift to intellectualism" a Nobel Prize before she retires to that think tank in the sky.

I will point out that your link gives stats for the USA only. I believe Ms. Jackson was talking about world-wide deaths. I do not know where she got her facts (if fact it is), but this website gives the same number:

20 Facts About Mikhail Kalashnikov's AK-47 - The Globalist

It does seem like a very high number, but, then again, the AK-47 is everywhere, and since 55 million or so people die each year, from various causes, it could be possible. This link claims that 1,000 people die each day (worldwide) from gunshots:

Global Impact of Gun Violence: Firearms, public health and safety

Of course, 1,000 per day would equate 365,000 or so per year. So, it is, at least, possible that she is correct.

If Sheila Jackson Lee were white and gerrymandering didn't exist she would be lucky to work behind the layaway counter at WalMart.

Why we let stupid people like SJL into public office baffles me, she's the epitome of stupid and she's an elected official.

That second link was vague -- real vague -- about the gun deaths per day:

"Small arms, commonly known as firearms or guns, are used to kill as many as 1,000 people each day."

I get a "file not found" reference when I click on the link under the footnote. I realize the AK-47 is pretty widely used in third world countries, but I'm still not buying 250,000 deaths per year. And even the AK-47 link was not too heavy on reference sources.

That's the sad part -- just like Maxine "The Mentalist" Waters, and her special brand of Idiocy.

Well, no one said 250,000 deaths per day.

I realize that the 'fact' proclaimed by Ms. Jackson is not well-documented at all.

My point is thus: do not reject some opinion merely because you may not like the person saying it. It is lazy thinking.

Since the AK-47 is so popular throughout the world (the articles about the inventor kept estimating 70 million to 100 million AK-47s produced) it may possibly be true. However, I doubt that any 'firm' figure can be established.
