I think the OP has some valid points, particularly with regard to upbringing primarily in single-parent, female-headed households and the medication-oriented, feminized and over-sensitized "educational" Frankenstein brought to us by the NEA. Sandy Hook Elementary turned into a slaughterhouse because it was run as a henhouse -- and you Politically Correct groupies can wait for an apology on that one until there are ice cream parlors in Hell.
But men have been conditioned from time immemorial not to whine and not to call attention to personal issues -- and I suspect that there is more recognition of this among those who subscribe to the "strong and silent" mentality when and where the pretty boys and metrosexuals aren't in attendance.
Most of us still know where to go and what to do when the chips are down.

So . . . what? We looking for John Wayne to make a reappearance? Billy Jack?
I just want to remind everyone that Brad Pitt survived the zombie apocalypse quite well. And he looked good doing it.
Most men will be as tough as required of them if they are able. We live in a soft society these days so there is a lot of leeway.
If times got really tough, I mean really tough you would see all this fluff disappear and what would remain would be desperate, tough men as through history.
If times got really tough, you would see millions of city critters die because they no longer possess the skills to take care of themselves or their families. Those who live in rural areas and still posses hunting, fishing, and other survival skills, have the best chance of survival, but you can kiss goodbye over 90% of everyone in a city.
City critters have become so dependent upon the city's infrastructure and social programs, that if they should fail for any reason millions of lives will be in jeopardy. Which is why whenever there is a natural disaster the cities are always the first to receive aid.

No, we're not media=conditioned grown-up children conditioned to relate everything to a juvenile fantasy; what's needed is a set of values known as common sense. But that would get in the way of Big Sister's agenda.

Cities get a faster response than rural areas in wide-spread disaster zones because efficiency of scale matters to emergency aid providers. It's simple logistics.

For the love of Pete, try to knock that giant chip off your shoulder before it smothers you.

They get a faster response because more people's lives are in danger than in rural areas.
Cities have at most maybe a 3 to 5 day supply of food on their shelves in grocery stores, and even less potable water. What do you think will happen a week after a natural disaster and the city is not resupplied?
Most rural homes, however, have at least 3 to 5 days of food in their pantry, access to potable water, and the means to acquire more food and water should the stores run out.
City critters that do not get resupplied almost immediately (within 72 hours) are screwed. Take Katrina and New Orleans as an example. Governor Blanco prevented the Red Cross and other emergency services from entering the State for three days. By that time all the refuges at the stadium were out of food and water, and we will not even get into the failure of their sanitation services.
Meanwhile the rural residents just outside the city of New Orleans, while still having to cope with extensive damage and power loss, did not suffer from a lack of food, water, or proper sanitation.

It's a combination of both. In some cases, rural folks were more prepared to survive in the aftermath of Katrina, while others were left in terribly dire straits. Regardless, the difference in response times is simple logistics. It's more efficient and effective to deliver aid where it can do the most good for the most people. It's nonsensical to deliver aid to one person when the same amount of effort can aid hundreds or even thousands. Rural folks know this, and it's one of the reasons they keep more resources on hand.
Regardless, both city dwellers and rural folks should be aware of their most likely natural disasters and prepare accordingly. In my case, it's power disruption resulting from winter storms, and flooding.
