I look all around me, in my college town, and on TV, and see pretty boys who think that they have to dress like a fashion model, shave their chest and sport a six pack to get female attention. The mass media as a whole shoves this culture down the throat of the American male. Men were Connery, Stallone, the Duke, Willis not that long ago. Now Efron, Patterson, Beckham and DiCaprio are supposed to be masculine examples? Hell NO. Every time I see men in TV ads, I want to throw up. If you want a microcosm of how men have become less than men, TV ads denigrating men and glorifying women are the perfect example. Daddy or Hubby is always so clueless and dumb needing the woman to tell him what to do.
The indoctrination to woosie boy begins young. Primary education does everything in its power to turn boys into neuters. Boys are given Ritalin so that their natural aggressiveness, curiosity and restlessness can be controlled, instead of nurtured and directed. In college, female values such as sensitivity, socialization, and cooperation, are fostered and put up on a pedestal instead of teaching hard facts and critical thinking.
Do young women really want these woosie men? Why are men falling for this garbage?

There were woosie men back in the 70's - Phil Donahue and Alan Alda come to mind.
Come to think of it, I was an avid fan of "Little House on the Prairie", and I don't recall Michael Landon having any hair on his chest. There were so many episodes where "Pa" broke his ribs, I couldn't help noticing.
I wonder what a John Wayne masculine lifestyle of eating tons of red meat, drinking whiskey, and smoking cigs all day would get you. Oh wait that's right, stomach cancer.

They will soon return to the closet where they belong.
John Wayne's real name was Marion, he repeatedly dodged military service and for the better part of his life, he wore a wig like your granny did to cover his bald head. Was he a "real man?"
Both genders are into a higher level of grooming than previous generations. Women in the 70s kept a lot of their body hair as well and now-a-days that is completely unacceptable. The men have just taken a while longer to catch up.

What is it with you guys and having things shoved down your throats? Not the metaphor that I think of first, but it seems to be the go to statement for you guys. So you think men should do what for women? It seems like you don't have any female values, do you just see them as property?

Plus, John Wayne was so frightened of the word 'cancer' that, when he developed lung cancer, he would only refer to it as "The Big C". Nevertheless, I liked his movies.
Anyway, back in the late 1960s and early 1970s many, like the OP, made the same complaint about 'men not being men' (watch All in the Family). Indeed back in the 1920s there were likewise many such complaints about the loss of manliness among men.
I guess if the OP wishes he or she may visit a prison, and so be delighted at the presence of so many 'real men'.
