When he brought that up lastnight it got a big response. Ok but what exactly can be done to eliminate this gap? This has been an issue for over 30 years now and it hasn't been solved. Why?
Gov't passing laws can help up to a point. But it's that there are more factors affecting this than just pay discrimination. If pay discrimination was the only problem then things would be different because laws would have eliminated pay discrimination. The other factors affecting this are things like fewer women negotiate their salaries,women have babies that they take time off for,many women prefer jobs with flexibility as far as hours,not enough women are working in science and tech fields etc.
So if Obama is going to do something about this gender pay gap then it's going to be a little more complicated than he realizes. This is one of those topics where it's easy to give a speech about it but harder to solve.

Because it isn't actually an issue except in the minds of people who cannot understand facts? One cannot solve a problem when the problem itself is non-existent.
No one has yet figured out how to eliminate the gap between the cost of pixie dust and the availability of unicorns? Why?
The gender wage gap is a myth. It's nothing but propaganda used to manipulate and anger the voting public. Men on average are paid more because they have more demanding jobs, more dangerous jobs, work more overtime, ask for raises more, don't take time off to bear/raise kids, etc.
If women were systematically paid less than men, employers would hire more women over men since they would be paying them less.
The first thing would be for him to pay the women who work in the WH the same as men and go from there.
I think the idea is equal pay for equal work...not everyone payed the same.
