The extreme right and the progressive left seem to leave one thing out. It is not about gun control. It is about people control. People are not taught to control their emotions. WE live in a society where we have been trained to let it all out....as if it is healthy and the best thing to do. Those that abuse guns and harm others are the same idiots who when angered or depressed or have this overwhelming urge to control others....who for instance will punch a solid wall with their bare fist...are the problem. It should be a shame and a curse for a person who has no self control. I remember a decade ago my daughter needed some therapy and she spent some time with a group ....I asked - Do they talk about self control? She said that was a taboo subject. Emotion is a blessing and is a curse on all of mankind. WAR and general mayhem....are fueled by emotion. Emotion should be reserved for the expression and appreciation of music and art....it is good during love making----OTHER than that...it clouds logic and leads to chaos.
A good example is how a nation will mobilize it's citizens towards war or revolution. Also: for instance - radical Islam is not fueled by logic but by emotion. The left wing progressives are emotional in a supposedly kind manner....Right wingers are driven by quiet anger and spite. All these things when combined with a weapon that can send a projectile tearing through human flesh and bone.....brings about tragedy. Our young must be taught that to lack self control is to lack real character.
Firearm education, seminars, or even registration are all time-wasting endeavors in regard to accidents. They will address the small minority of firearm accidents that kill someone in the home via accidental discharge. While those cases are extremely sad, you cannot fix stupid. Such things will continue to happen as long as firearms are in the home.
The root cause behind gun violence has to be addressed. The simple answer to this question would be to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. There needs to be a way to dissuade criminals from using guns to commit their crime. But how?
The more serious issue, I believe, is the recent trend of mass-shootings. While the rate of shootings might not of increased in raw numbers (I don't know, maybe it has), the coverage they receive has. The glorification of the shooter with 24/7 coverage and speculation only fuels others whose goal to is to be famous by means of a heinous crime. I know that such acts have to be reported somehow, but slimming down the network news coverage would likely reduce the motivation to commit the act.
The issue of 'gun control' has to be addressed with common sense solutions, but not trample over the 2nd Amendment.

Mandatory 10 year sentence for possession an illegal gun, 20 years if you are a felon, life if it's used in a crime.

And the remaining 20% of population should pick up the tab for these overcrowded prisons?
I don't want strangers around me having guns, with such a big percentage of population on anti-depressants and other mental health medications, with so much illegal and legal drug use I don't trust anybody to have guns and be around my family.
Recent well publicized massacres are a proof.
Canada has strict gun control laws and half of our murder rate.

Their gun control laws have nothing to do with murder rate.
If you want less murder, control the murderers. How about if anybody uses a gun to commit a felony, death penalty? That way no crowded prison.
Well publicized massacres are news, not proof. Do you what news means? Exotic things that don't happen often.
Feet shoulder width apart, one foot back, keep both hands on the grip, at a 45-degree angle to your body, push with one hand while you pull with the other, take a breath, let half of it out, rest the target on the top of the sights, squeeze slowly, pause if the sights wander off the target, resume squeezing when the sights are back on, let the gun surprise you with a shot.
That's the only kind of "gun control" that works.
My thoughts also. Gun Control by the State is nothing more than "people control".

How do you figure?
Death penalty cases spend more time in prison, than non-death penalty cases.
