Despite the spouse and parents wanting their brain dead daughter taken off life support the state of Texas refuses to recognize their personal decision because she was 14 weeks pregnant. If the women were alive she could have an abortion but now that shes not the decision lies with the great state of Texas.

So killing the child is the answer. The mother can't make that decision.

Well.

Considering the fact that the mother can't make any more decisions -period-, I think that point is irrelevant.

It's an unfortunate situation, but the decision should lie with the family. NOt the government.

Doctors aren't even sure if it will ever be viable...it was only 14 weeks along. But in big gov Perryland, we don't care about the opinions of the family or doctors.

Republicans oppose big government, except when they don't. Maybe that's why Ricky had such a hard time naming three bureaucracies to cut.

It's better than keeping the mother on life support just to be an incubator for a child that might be viable.

Against her wishes, even.

From your article:

Quote:
The hospital maintains that it is following the law, although several experts in medical ethics said they believed the hospital was misinterpreting it. A crucial issue is whether the law applies to pregnant patients who are brain-dead as opposed to those in a coma or a vegetative state. The law, first passed by the Texas Legislature in 1989 and amended in 1999, states that a person may not withdraw or withhold “life-sustaining treatment” from a pregnant patient.

Take a look at political makeup of the Seventy First Texas Legislature which passed this law in 1989...

Yeah, both the Texas House of Reps and the Senate were controlled by DEMOCRATS.

It's stated in the article.

It is against the woman's wishes to keep her on life support.

The family was honoring her wishes by saying their final goodbyes and pulling the plug.
